We have been dealing with gas tillers up to now so we don't know what the equivalent horsepower the 9 AMP is. Can you tell us?

Asked by: Sandra
It was actually more power than I needed for raised beds-it's very powerful. It made super soft soil(like brown sugar) in my compacted beds down to it's 8 inch design. It never stalled and walking behind it I sank my feet in 3 in, like walking on a cloud. It would not cut in the Nevada ground we have--but nothing does short of bulldozers and nitro, but in top soil it was great.

Customer Reviews

Tiller Joe Max 9 Amp Electric Tiller and Cultivator is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 161.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of our better purchases lately! When we opened the box we were a little leary as the wheels are plastic and the handles didn't seem like they would be very strong. There wasn't much to assembling, that was pretty easy. I enjoy the ease of it being electric, so easy to start and run. Our ground is very hard but we soaked it the night before tilling the area. This tiller just cuts right through it. When it comes to areas with heavy roots it takes a little bit for the tiller to get through it but still does not seem to be much work for this tiller. Myself and my wife both take turns using it, it is that easy to use and we are both sixty-something! This has been a great investment for us, we are really enjoy using it!

If you don't have good hand and arm strength better be doing some weight lifting before grabbing one of these by the horns. Motor very strong, did not overheat even though I was using it to till up my overgrown garden after I cut the weeds down to the dirt. But the roots did not slow it any at all. I did have trouble with my old extension cord staying plugged into the unit so use the cord minder and be sure the wires are secured.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tiller for the price I was so tired of having my gas rototiller not start every spring requiring me to take it once again to the smal lengine shop for another $200 bill!. My Sun Joe Tiller has never had a problem with satrting and is a tireless workhoarse when it comes to till my 200 x 200 foot garden. I have had it over 4 years and just today had the wled in one of the blades break. Sop I have certainly got my moneys worth in this reliable durable machine. Thanks Sun Joe for a great product.

The tiller arrived yesterday and I immediately assembled it (less than 10 minutes). Then I got right to work tilling my garden. I was very impressed with the power. I chose this model because it was the widest, not highest amperes. It certainly does not lack any power though. I would recommend this to anyone over a gas powered tiller for smaller areas.

It mixed over 1500 bags of mud in a bag and still running strong. only dislikes are that the wheels on it are to small wobbly and are difficult to keep clean and you have to hold the trigger the entire time it runs

I was tired of pulling ropes to start gas machines. I'm 82 yrs. old and do my own yardwork. Appreciate having this great machine to work with.

I needed to lever some ground for a small pool and this chewed up the grass easy enough. Doesn't seem to be heavy duty enough but you cant tell once you run it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not for everyone If you are just starting a garden or or landscaping project and have clay soil l, keep looking. This tiller only works if you drag it backwards unless the soil has already been loosened.
