Since 1981, the Sun-Mar Excel non-electric self-contained composting toilet has been a reliable and easy-to-use waste recycler for those living off the grid or for those who just want to live a green existence. This high-capacity waterless commode utilizes a patented Bio-drum that hastens odorless decomposition without a fan, heater, water supply or sewer connection. It includes a 4 in. diameter rear vent which, with extra piping, can be extended up through the roof to direct odors outside.

  • No electricity, sewer or water connection required (recycles waste into soil)
  • Optional Sun-Mar 12 V ventilation fan (sold separately) can be powered by marine battery or solar panel

What is there for maintance on the composting toilet?

The regular maintenance for the Excel-NE is as follows (Note: required only when the toilet is in use): 1) After each bowel movement add 1 scoop of Compost Sure. Alternative method: add 1 scoop per person per day 2) Rotate a handle on the exterior of the unit every 2 to 3 days 3) If required add water to keep the compost moist.
