Questions & Answers

Can this be a add on to a 6 foot mat for smaller places in bathroom under ceramic tiles

Asked by: Dale
If the area is no less than the smallest size in warmwire sold about 17 sq.. The heating wire cannot be cut so you need to bunch it up properly in the same area at least 2 inch spacing between the wire.

Thickness of wire

I am trying to find out the thickness of this wire, and if it can be used with the Ditra Uncoupling Mat?
Asked by: Simon
The heating cable is approximately 1/8” thick and will snap into the Schluter Ditra Heat Mat.

Can i install this under plywood

My existing bathroom has a vinyl over plywood floor. The underside of the floor is easily accessible from my semi-finished basement. Its a "walk-in" basement with slab floor, very dry-- it is where our washer-dryer, breaker box, etc are located. Could I put the heating wire under the plywood from below? And could I then put insulation batts under that to direct all the heat upward to the bathroom floor? Even if this would not be ideal, would it present any safety / fire hazard?
Asked by: JJ
No, the wire cannot be installed under the subfloor; it can only be installed on top of the subfloor and completely embedded in modified thin-set or self-leveler. We have a product that is specifically designed for this type of application and is a mat designed to be installed between the floor joists UNDER the floor you wish to heat. There are a variety of sizes available at The Home Depot, like this one: http://www.homedepot.com/p/SunTouch-Floor-Warming-4-ft-x-16-in-Underfloor-Radiant-Floor-Warming-Mat-1200416U2R/100607080

What is the wattage used on the 120v?

cannot determine if i need 15A or 20A circuit. I need to know so I can fish the right size wire back to breaker panel.
Asked by: Snap
The 120VAC heating system draws 1 amp per 10 square feet. For this 20 square feet mat, would only draw two amps. In this case, a 15 amp breaker is recommended. For anything between 12-15 amps, moving up to a 20 amp breaker is recommended.
