Customer Questions & Answers

Would this work for a greenhouse - gravel base with deck board on top?

Asked by: ColumbusClyde
SunTouch heating cable would not be the best solution for this, as it is solely meant for indoors applications and must be embedded in either modified thin-set or self-leveler.

can I just glue it down to a concrete floor ?

Asked by: mark
The information you provided isn't sufficient for us to recommend gluing it on the concrete so I would not do so, Please refer to the installation manual for proper installation procedures. Sincerely, SunTouch

Can I put thin-set and tile right over this or do I half to put down a layer of self-leveling mortar ?

Asked by: Kevin
Hi Kevin, The only time self-leveling floor compound is needed is when the floor is uneven. To read more about the installation process, I'd highly recommend to read the instruction manual straight from the manufacturer, linked below: This very important document not only tells you what do to for installation, but also what not to do as well. 60 sq. ft. 120-Volt Radiant Heating Wire is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 3.

I didn't try to get a second roll because I wanted to use hot glue to do the install. I takes MUCH longer but it 1) eliminates the risk of nicking the wire with metal tabs, and 2) eliminates floaters when I put down the thinset or SLC. I had originally planned to use SLC, but I have a plywood floor, and with existing construction I did not want the extra thickness of metal lathe required with a wood surface. It turned out to be very difficult to lay down the thinset for a DIYer, so if you can do cement backer board and SLC, that is a better solution. Since I used thinset which takes 3-4 weeks to cure I haven't been able to use it for more than a few minutes, but everything seems to work as advertised and I did watch it increase the temp by one degree before turning it off. I ordered 60 sq ft and needed 70 sq ft. I was even more annoyed that HD does not carry the 10 sq ft product, even though it is available, so I had to order it from another company in California which delayed my install by a week

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome I recently bought this and installed in my bathroom. Was very easy to install. Just make sure you order the right square feet. Works very good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better value than the heated matts Product comes with metal installation straps. This was not mentioned in the description. The wire is slightly harder to install than the mats, but a much better value.
