Customer Questions & Answers

Does it come with the floor sensor? Or does that need to be purchased separately?

Asked by: Tiff
Yes it does, all of our SunStat thermostats packages include one floor sensor. Additional floor sensors are available as well if requested, under the Item Number 500110. Sincerely, SunTouch

One thermostat for several mats?

Can one thermostat be used to control several mats which are spaced about 4ft apart? I am wanting to install these in adjoining runs in a dog kennel.
Asked by: DenaG
Yes. Download the instructions on SunTouch mats to see how to do that.

Can this thermostat be replaced by traditional 110/220 thermostat by doing some rewiring within the box to make it work?

Asked by: Will
I would contact the manufacturer. Off-hand my answer would be no. These thermostats are specifically designed to power a heated mat and regulate the temperature. Traditional thermostats just tell a furnace/AC when to kick on. The SunTouch thermostats deliver the power to the mat.

Can this thermostat be used with a Thermosoft floor heating mat?

Asked by: frankow
Our thermostats are a line voltage control. Check with Thermosoft to ensure their elements are line voltage. If replacing an existing control, the existing sensor may need read correctly on the SunStat control. Sincerely, SunTouch

Customer Reviews

SunStat 120-Volt/240-Volt Non-Programmable Floor Warming Control is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for Bathroom remodel I used this ananlog temperature controller as the ON/OFF switch for a 6FTx30IN SunTOuch heating mat and the combination is working perfectly. The unit comes with a tiny thermocouple for monitoring the floor temperature. You just need to put it under the tiles and connect the leads to the controller. The wiring is simple and intuitive with detailed instructions in a DVD shipped with the package. Just don't forget to put down the thermocouple while installaing the tiles. Overall, it is an easy task to install the controller and the mat without too much extra effort. My family is enjoying it very much.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Functionality Deficit Disorder I bought this thermostat to control a 20 square foot floor heating mat I installed in a bathroom. If I had to do it all over again, I would have spent the extra money for a programmable thermostat. Both seem expensive for a thermostat that only controls the temperature in a single room, but the functionality of the programmable unit seems essential now that I have installed the system. If you are going to leave the floor warming system on all the time, or can remember to turn it up 20-30 minutes before you want to use the room, this thermostat may be the one for you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good basic thermostat Does what it should, built in GFCI. Does not allow for pre-set on off periods. Its either on or off (there's a switch). LED indicates green for on, but not heating, red for actively heating, which is nice because it lets you determine the cycle time if you want to figure approximate heating costs to use it. Might have been nice to buy the more expensive unit so it could pre-heat in the morning and not run all day and then warm up in the evening. I suggest buying a heating mat as opposed to just cable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works perfectly this replaced a programmable thermostat that an older couple did not like. This one is very simple to use and has a LED indicator lamp that shows when it is on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LESS IS MORE We replaced two Sunstat programmable thermostats (each had died after 3 yrs)...the high-end way over-engineered model that does everything except start the coffee pot. All we wanted was a simple "senior model"...on/off and up/down (temp). I did the installation myself. At purchase, I bought one extra (on advice of my sister) and, sure enough, one was faulty. Saved me an extra trip to Home Depot in the middle of the install. Despite that glitch, it's a great value and just what we wanted. Home Depot refunded on the faulty one, no problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, easy to use I recently installed a SunTouch mat in my bathroom floor. I originally wanted to use a timer switch but soon realized these thermostats are needed to regulate power to the mats. I mounted the thermostat in a deep single gang box. It was just enough room for 6 inches of 12 gauge wire, the sensor wire and mat power wire. Instructions are easy and clear. I do wish they organized the hot/neutral wire set up on the back but I just read closely which was wired to which. Operation is simple, turn the dial to the temp and flip the on switch. The GFCI test is easy to operate as well. The floor takes about 10-20 minutes to get 'warm' and longer to get 'warmer' so in that sense, I wish I got a programmable one. I turn the floor on when I wake up... my wife turns it off later after she showers. One note: I ran a new 20 amp circuit for my heated mat. Before the thermostat I installed a 20 amp GFCI outlet. I did not wire the thermostat as a load off the GFCI outlet as the thermostat is GFCI too and they would both trip each other. I just pigtailed the GFCI onto the load. My mat draws 1.5 amps and my wife's blow dryer just below 15 amps so the circuit is around the recommended 80% max draw. No circuit breaker trips yet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks and works good Easily installed, easy to use. I was concerned that the dial would not look nice, but I was wrong. The unit is sleek, clean, and has a contemporary look. I aligned it with the light switches and it looks great. The dial only has a few degrees marked on it, so it leaves you guessing a bit on where to set it. I like being able to turn it on and leave it so the floor is always warm.
