CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
Humidifiers provide comfort by adding moisture to dry, heated indoor air. To benefit most from the humidifier and avoid product misuse, follow all instructions carefully. Please note that this is an electrical appliance and requires attention when in use. In addition, if you do not follow the recommended care and maintenance guidelines, micro-organisms may be able to grow in the water within the water tank. You must routinely follow the cleaning procedures that follow in order to ensure proper, efficient operation of your humidifier. Proper maintenance and cleaning is essential to the continued performance of your unit and the avoidance of algae or bacteria build-up.
Daily Maintenance (Cool Mist/Warm Mist/Ultrasonic):
1. Be sure the unit is OFF and is disconnected from the electrical outlet.
2. Remove the housing and the tank from the humidifier and place in sink or tub. Remove the filter if applicable (for Cool Mist only).
3. Carry the base of the unit to the sink, remove the wick, place in sink, drain any remaining water and rinse thoroughly to remove any sediment or dirt. Wipe clean, and dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.
4. Drain the water from the tank into the sink and rinse tank thoroughly. Wipe clean, and dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.
5. Put filter back in (for Cool Mist only), replace the housing, then refill tank with cool tap water as instructed earlier in the Filling Instructions. Do not overfill.
6. Follow Operating Instructions to turn on the humidifier.
Special Cleaning Instructions for Warm Mist Humidifiers only:
NOTE: Allow the humidifier to cool down before maintenance.
1. The Electronic Thermal Control heating element is lined with a coating that is designed to provide the easiest cleaning and prolong the operating efficiency for the humidifier. DO NOT use any metal or hard objects to clean the heating element. Wipe the heating element clean with a soft cloth.
2. Never use detergents, gasoline, kerosene, glass cleaner, furniture polish, paint thinner or other household solvents to clean any part of the humidifier.
Weekly Maintenance (Cool Mist/Warm Mist/Ultrasonic):
To Remove Scale:
NOTE: For Warm Mist, allow the humidifier to cool down before maintenance.
1. Repeat previous steps in Daily Maintenance.
2. Clean the base by partially filling the base with one 8-oz cups of undiluted white vinegar, or by using Cleanse Clean® (Model S1710) by the manufacturer. Leave this solution in the base for 20 minutes, while cleaning all the interior surfaces with a soft brush (brush not included). Gently scrub the area around the transducer with a soft brush
(for Ultrasonic only).
Remove base scale by wiping the base with a cloth dampened with undiluted white vinegar.
3. Rinse with clean warm water to remove the cleaning solution before disinfecting the tank.
To Disinfect Humidifier Base and Tank:
1. Fill humidifier tank 1/2 full with water and 1/2 tablespoon of chlorine bleach.
2. Let the solution stand for 20 minutes, swishing every few minutes. Wet all surfaces.
3. Carefully empty the tank after 20 minutes, and rinse with warm water until you cannot detect any bleach smell. Dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.
4. Place filter back into tank (for Cool Mist only).
5. Refill the water tank with cool water and replace on housing (see Filling Instructions above). Follow Operating Instructions to turn the humidifier ON.

Where do I find Holmes mineral treatment solution?

Sunbeam has recommended the Holmes product to use with this ultrasonic humidifier. The filter cartridge recommended by Sunbeam is no longer available but Sunbeam has recommended the Holmes mineral treatment as an alternative. The Holmes people said it was available "everywhere" but so far I have not been able to find it anywhere in the Detroit, Michigan area.
Please advise where I might buy that or a similar mineral treatment product to reduce the amount of mineral "dust" that is generated.

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Badly designed, but works well I bought the one I own 5 years or so ago from HomeDepot in Fall River Mass. It's worked well all this time. It gets a little silted up from minerals, but it's never got moldy or nasty. BUT -and this is a *big* BUT- to refill the reservoir requires turning it upside down and, because of how tall it is, and that it can't stand by itself, holding it in both hands while sitting on the edge of the tub leaning over to fill it from the tap. You know what's going to happen one day: it's wet, and heavy, and awkward, and no matter how careful you are, one day it's going to slip from your hands and break when it hits the tub. I'm looking for a replacement reservoir. February 13, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by really liked this and worked well until I cleaned it! Worked well but felt I should clean it - did so in accordance with maintenance instructions. After which no longer produced mist. Contacted Sunbeam who were not that helpful. Demineralization cartridges no longer manufactured by them and have never found the Cleanse Clean Solution they recommend. Sunbeam recommended a tablet they now make but have been unable to find it. Would think if Home Depot sell unit they would sell accessories for maintenance too! Shame as it was working well. Just out of warranty when it stopped working. May 28, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product I've had this unit for a year and a half in my son's room, and used it almost daily. It works well and is very quiet. It cycles on and off by itself when it reaches the set humidity level. It's fairly easy to clean and can be filled from the sink tap. I am planning to buy a second one for our new baby's room. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by love it! i've had used this humidifier for two winters, and this is the start of the third year. the unit might be a little bit different, but it looks the same and i wanted to comment on it since i've used it for several seasons. for me, winter means horribly dry heater air and very uncomfortable sinuses--using a humidifier while i sleep is the difference between having congested, bleeding sinuses every morning or breathing freely. i even take it with me when i take winter car trips to visit relatives--hotel rooms and guest bedrooms are much more comfortable. i selected this unit because i wanted a larger capacity tank (so you fill it a little less often) but still have it be portable. the tank's 1.5 gal lasts me 2-3 nights (8 hrs per night) with a humidity setting of 50% is 10' X 13' bedroom. the tank is easy to carry around because it actually screws closed (can't spill the water--unless you press on the release valve--don't do this) and has a carrying handle, which is the arc at the top of the unit. to fill the tank, you have to turn it upside down and unscrew its stopper/release valve (the port through which the water enters the humidifier proper). it's designed to balance on the edge of your sink while you fill it with your faucet hose, but if you have only a standard faucet or if your sink edge has a thick lip on it, you'll have to keep it upright with your hand and possibly tip it at an angle--this is how i fill mine and it's not troublesome to me. you can also set it in a bucket so you don't have to support it. also, i really liked this unit because of the range of humidity settings from 30, 40, 50, 60%; you can also just have it run continuously which i'd guess get you to 70-80%. if you haven't used an ultrasonic humidifier before, be aware that if your water has a high mineral content and you aren't filtering it, the mist that's produced will also contain these minerals and will leave a "dust" where the mist falls. i don't find this to be a problem, but just wanted to mention it. some humidifiers contain mineral filters, or you can filter your water. i don't have time or energy to worry about it, but i've made a point to put a runner rug (or grass beach mat) in front of the unit when i've used in a room with a wood floor. the unit doesn't make any more noise than a floor fan. i actually like the white noise and occasional water gurgle it makes as it runs just 5 ft from my head. it's the sound of soothed sinuses. :) October 17, 2012
