Answer:
KB, the hole is in the hose guide (not stopper) that is 1.75 inches in diameter. The hose stopper is the black piece that fits near the end of the garden hose to prevent the end from being pulled into the box.

Thank you for your question, KB. The opening in the hose stopper where a garden hose would go through is 1.75 inches in diameter. As long as the couplers fit through the tracker without binding the take up, adding the 100 feet of hose is fine.

However, if it won't pull hose without catching the coupling at the tracker, then one full-length hose will be needed. Stay away from couplers with the big plastic grips on them, too. As long as the connections between your two 50 foot hoses is less than the 1.75 inch diameter, you should be all right.
Keep in mind, too, that the gearing and threading on the hose reel itself are sized for a 5/8 inch diameter garden hose, and a vinyl hose is best because it will not tax the motor as much as a heavy rubber hose would, thereby shortening the life of the hose reel. We appreciate your interest in Suncast products.

The stopper should have came with the device. I would return the one that did not have the stopper and get a replacement that will.

This model does not get good reviews. When was the last time it has been updated? There are two model numbers, one model seems to get better reviews. Is one of them newer than the other? I was hoping to purchase one until I read the reviews.

Thank you

All the Suncast water-powered auto-rewind hose reels are powered by the same mechanism on the inside, Judy, the valve assembly and the engine. The differences are in the exterior design.
For each, water enters from the leader hose into the unit when the faucet is turned on. With the valve handle in the REST position, the hose can be pulled out and used as needed.
To rewind hose, the valve handle must be moved to the REWIND position. Water pressure operates the motor. The hose reel will only rewind when the water source is on and the lever is in the REWIND position. The reel rotates, the hose winds in, and water exits out the discharge hose.
Each of the different models has been engineered to work as intended for the consumer. With proper care and maintenance as detailed in the manual, the consumer can expect to use his auto-rewind hose reel for years to come.
We appreciate your concerns, Judy, and thank you for thinking of Suncast for your garden needs.

125 ft. Aquawinder Auto Rewind Hose Reel is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 63.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too bad… Brilliant Engineering… Almost. Suncast ALMOST gets it right. The mechanism that transfers the energy of water pressure to leverage for turning the reel is actually pretty amazing. They use three pistons (at least in the one that I tore apart) coupled to an ingenious valve system to crank the reel round and round. It's a fairly complicated but very will conceived system that, in itself, works pretty well. BUT… apparently to save a few cents of production cost, the engineers used weak and non-durable material in some very critical places and those quickly fail. On my hose reel the element that switched the flow of water from the hose you water plants with to the piston mechanism completely locked up - to the point the switching handle broke off. I have a passion for fixing things and I'm pretty good at it but there was just no practical way I could repair the problems (some swollen and torn O-rings deep within the mechanism and some other very flimsy cast-plastic parts). Some soft plastic gears and cogs are also a problem and were on their way to failure too, so I had to trash the whole thing. Too bad - "for want of a nail… a battle was lost."

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Working well for now Product well for now. However, my concern is about longevity. I purchased this one to replace the same one that was purchased about 2 years ago. I like the product when it works which is why I bought it again. I just hope that I get a longer useful life this time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worked ok about 5 times then started malfunctioning. It took me over 10 minutes to attach the drain hose because it was too small to fit properly to the water outlet. After about 5 or 6 uses it would no longer rewind properly. The winding stops and all you get is a clattering sound and you have to reach inside and turn the spool by hand in order to finish winding.. I called Suncast customer service and the arrogant woman I spoke to refused to do anything without a receipt. I usually keep receipts for smaller purchases until I use the item a few times. I didn't keep it long enough this time. Read the reviews. This is a TERRIBLE product and Suncast knows this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent and easy All the fittings were fine. They are standard size so I do not know how one buyer had a problem fitting the hoses. I does not really need feeding unless the hose is all awry. Make sure the hose is sort of lined up and it will do it without you. My complaint is the plastic gears. They will break but I think that comes from my wife's heavy handed use of the unit. She does not like it at all but that is her problem with all things mechanical. If the gears could be covered with a thin, metallic shell, it would live longer although I've had mine for four years and have identified one stripped gear. After watching the video, I am curious about the reciprocating mechanism. I may have to sacrifice one to tear apart.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fragile mechanism, mouth works well My unit worked about 5 times when the mechanism stopped working, the switch broke off and the unit leaked profusely. Suncast sent me a replacement mechanism and it has been working pretty well. The mechanism doesn't look all that sturdy, and the handle attachment doesn't look like it can handle the torque repeatedly over many years. That said, I think it's pretty cost effective to replace the water system core. It doesn't inspire confidence, but it works smoothly and quietly so far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Useful But Not Durable I love the way this reel works. It is very convenient to have the hose roll up automatically. The bad news is that the device is not very durable. I have to get a new one every 3 years because the auto rewind function loses power and eventually stops working. It may be my fault for not putting it in the garage in the winter? I live in Seattle and it does occasionally drop below freezing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Aquawinder Auto Reel The hose reel, was as advertised. It is simple to use and appears sturdy. I would recommend this product to anyone seeking an automatic hose reel. I could not give this a 5 for value, because the last one I had, which lasted 10 years and was made by a different company and was much cheaper (The company was sold to the current company). I hope this one last as long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Jose reeler This is my second one in five years. I have ordered parts to repair the first one. The Suncast people were very helpful.
