Hurricane resistant?

This question is from 2 ft. 8 in. x 4 ft. 5 in. x 6 ft. Large Vertical Storage Shed

I saw that this can be secured to a slab using four anchor points in the floor. Is it also possible to secure the back or sides to an adjacent structure (using angle brackets or something)? Since I live in hurricane-prone south Florida, I want to make sure that the rest of the shed won't blow away, leaving only the floor behind. I realize there's probably not much that can be done to make it hurricane-proof, but I want to be sure that the sides won't get blown off the base too easily.

Answer:
No, but then not much is unless you pay thousands of dollars to build a county permitted shed. That gets expensive. It's like building an add on to your house. So for now I bought this shed and placed it in my car port. In case of a size able storm I can strap it down to brackets on my wall.

I believe it is hurricane resistant, BUT you should construct a platform and if possible, secure the sides to existing structures with brackets..

I would buy something stronger that can stand up to bad weather. This is much too light weight. The doors are not strongly attached and the material is very thin. I'd go with a Rubbermaid product and pay a bit more. That way after the hurricane, your storage unit will still be there!

The warranty does not cover Acts of Nature, including but not limited to damage caused by weather events such as wind in excess of 65 mph; tornado; hurricane; microburst; hail; flood; snow that is not removed from the roof when over 8” in depth; blizzard; extreme heat; pollution or fire events. Given your locale, you would be wise to anchor your shed as completely as possible. You might also consult with local Home Depot hardware specialists on what tie-downs they suggest and offer.

Place the floor panel on the ground first then start assembly from left to right. Screw the bolts into the hinges before you install them on the door panels. They go in from the bottom. Then turn them to fit. The instructions are confusing. Be careful installing the hasp on the bottom of the right door panel. Do not take it apart. Takes a little force to get it in place. The last part is the roof panel. Install the question mark type pieces in its location but do not connect them or snap them into the lid until they are snapped together. Read Less

No. Accept for the doors it is easy to assemble. The door hinges are a real problem and the material it's made out of is flimsy. I had to jerry-rig the doors or they would continue to fall off. For them money I would recommend another brand or pay more for a better shed.

No. But the instructions provide a description of how to add up to 3 shelves. You will need to cut the shelves from 3/4" wood (plywood works well) using the dimensions diagrammed in the instruction booklet. The side and back walls of the shed are molded with supports for the shelves.

The assembly manual for the Suncast BMS5700 includes measurements and instructions for cutting and installing a wood shelf. Please see page 12 of the manual, available in the Info & Guides section of the Home Depot web site next to Product Overview for this model.
A shelf placed in the rear of the shed has a depth of 12 inches as indicated by the dimensions from the manual for the BMS5700. The shed depth is 28.25 inches. This allows plenty of storage space for tall handled tools in front of a shelf. Home Depot offers a variety of storage hooks that can be attached to the shelf to hang or stabilize these tools as you see fit.

I don't believe adding a doggie door to this shed is advisable. It would make the unit less sturdy than it already is. That said, the unit is made of plastic, and not extremely sturdy, but it does what it is made to do....store a few extra yard or pool things in it.

While it's possible to do so, you'd need to plan and prepare and obtain correct cutting tools to do so.
Also, be aware that you'd likely be voiding any warranty you'd have on the shed by doing this.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Shed Shipped direct arrived on time. Assembled by myself in just over an hour. Great storage for the back deck July 1, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Instructions are not detailed enough Putting up the sides and bottom were easy but figuring out the hinges was a nightmare. The instructions were not detailed enough and did not indicate that you have to put the screw through the hinge as tightly as possible because it essentially just tightens around the plastic. I still have one bottom hinge that is not screwed in properly. On the roof, I could not figure out for the life of me how to insert the metal roof support so it's just sitting there in the corner! Other than that, considering I'm a short 63 yr. old woman it was physically not too hard to do. I just wish the directions had been more detailed. It does fit very nicely on my Condo patio. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Shed, Easy to assemble. This shed was exactly what I needed and cleared up a lot of room in my garage. The assembly was simple and took me about 30 minutes to put it all together. I was very please with this shed and it now stores my folding chairs, saw horsed lot more items that use to take up space in the garage. It even held up to a rain storm and the inside of the shed remained dry, no water entered the shed! March 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great storage for the garden This shed went together in a very short time and is the perfect solution for my garden tool storage. Instructions are clear and easy to follow, I'd recommend this product to anyone July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very pleased Easy to assemble with a little assistance of a second person; it took about an hour and a half. Attractive. Holds a lot. A substantial amount of assembly time was spent trying to interpret the instruction drawings. They could be much better. The roof support bar should be installed by the manufacturer before shipping. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Durable Storage Shed Suncast makes a durable, lightweight outdoor garden shed. The ability to add shelves enables one to maximize the space. I have two and would recommend this product. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product Great product for the money. Very easy to put together. Directions needed a little more clarification with the bars on the roof. Plastic lock on the bottom is pretty tough and needs some grease ( a few applications) other than that, I couldn't ask for a better shed. July 12, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice but not great Storage unit is perfect size (to hide behind neighbor's fence), nice appearance, but toughness is questionable when noticing roof instability when trying to move it into final position. Hope a strong wind doesn't easily "decapitate" it! June 28, 2016
