Hurricane resistant?

I saw that this can be secured to a slab using four anchor points in the floor. Is it also possible to secure the back or sides to an adjacent structure (using angle brackets or something)? Since I live in hurricane-prone south Florida, I want to make sure that the rest of the shed won't blow away, leaving only the floor behind. I realize there's probably not much that can be done to make it hurricane-proof, but I want to be sure that the sides won't get blown off the base too easily.

No, but then not much is unless you pay thousands of dollars to build a county permitted shed. That gets expensive. It's like building an add on to your house. So for now I bought this shed and placed it in my car port. In case of a size able storm I can strap it down to brackets on my wall.

I believe it is hurricane resistant, BUT you should construct a platform and if possible, secure the sides to existing structures with brackets..

I would buy something stronger that can stand up to bad weather. This is much too light weight. The doors are not strongly attached and the material is very thin. I'd go with a Rubbermaid product and pay a bit more. That way after the hurricane, your storage unit will still be there!

The warranty does not cover Acts of Nature, including but not limited to damage caused by weather events such as wind in excess of 65 mph; tornado; hurricane; microburst; hail; flood; snow that is not removed from the roof when over 8” in depth; blizzard; extreme heat; pollution or fire events. Given your locale, you would be wise to anchor your shed as completely as possible. You might also consult with local Home Depot hardware specialists on what tie-downs they suggest and offer.

Place the floor panel on the ground first then start assembly from left to right. Screw the bolts into the hinges before you install them on the door panels. They go in from the bottom. Then turn them to fit. The instructions are confusing. Be careful installing the hasp on the bottom of the right door panel. Do not take it apart. Takes a little force to get it in place. The last part is the roof panel. Install the question mark type pieces in its location but do not connect them or snap them into the lid until they are snapped together. Read Less

No. Accept for the doors it is easy to assemble. The door hinges are a real problem and the material it's made out of is flimsy. I had to jerry-rig the doors or they would continue to fall off. For them money I would recommend another brand or pay more for a better shed.

No. But the instructions provide a description of how to add up to 3 shelves. You will need to cut the shelves from 3/4" wood (plywood works well) using the dimensions diagrammed in the instruction booklet. The side and back walls of the shed are molded with supports for the shelves.

The assembly manual for the Suncast BMS5700 includes measurements and instructions for cutting and installing a wood shelf. Please see page 12 of the manual, available in the Info & Guides section of the Home Depot web site next to Product Overview for this model.
A shelf placed in the rear of the shed has a depth of 12 inches as indicated by the dimensions from the manual for the BMS5700. The shed depth is 28.25 inches. This allows plenty of storage space for tall handled tools in front of a shelf. Home Depot offers a variety of storage hooks that can be attached to the shelf to hang or stabilize these tools as you see fit.

I don't believe adding a doggie door to this shed is advisable. It would make the unit less sturdy than it already is. That said, the unit is made of plastic, and not extremely sturdy, but it does what it is made to do....store a few extra yard or pool things in it.

While it's possible to do so, you'd need to plan and prepare and obtain correct cutting tools to do so.
Also, be aware that you'd likely be voiding any warranty you'd have on the shed by doing this.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Shed Shipped direct arrived on time. Assembled by myself in just over an hour. Great storage for the back deck July 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by saved my space my pantry became a nightmare there was so much stuff in it I didn't even want to open the door until I purchased this shed it was easy to assemble its water prof and is setup to hold three shelves I put in all my hardware and now I have room for my food. Great addition to the patio because it also looks very nice. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by nice compact shed I chose this shed because it is pretty compact, yet it has space for shelves for storage above the floor. I store 2 folding tables, 8 folding chairs, a small metal firepit, 2 beach chairs, and other miscellaneous items in it. Since I didn't want to place it on my patio, I built a wooden platform per the instructions in the manual. If you want to get a head start on this, you can download the instructions from the Suncast website ahead of time and get started before your shed actually arrives at your house. Building the platform and getting it level and stable actually took longer than building the shed. Building the shed was straightforward, but I agree with others that the instructions on how to attach the hinges to the walls was not explained well. The bolt should be preinstalled in the hinge since it's easier to put it on if you do that first. Then you snap the hinge onto the designated spot on the edge of the wall, and tighten the bolt until it grabs tight to the plastic wall. If it's not grabbing it tight, then you did it wrong. :/ Attaching the bolts that secure the front edge of the roof was a bit of a guessing game also, but we got it figured out. The plastic assembly bolts and tool provided in the package work just fine as long as you don't overtighten them. They don't need to be cranked down tight! I had my son helping me. It's much easier if you have an assistant to hold the first wall piece in place while you manipulate the second one etc. Installing a shelf actually improves the structural rigidity of the walls a bit, but I still would not lean anything very heavy against them. If you need a shed that can handle decent forces pushing against the inside of the walls, you probably want to build something out of wood instead of hollow plastic. That said, I did go off-book and add two additional screws to my shelf to secure it to the back wall. That ought to help prevent the back wall from bowing outward, helping to better support the shelf and helping maintain the shape of the shed. This shed is not very theft-deterrent, even with a lock. If securing the contents from theft is a primary concern, again, you should be getting something more substantial than hollow plastic. Overall, the shed went together pretty easily, and I'm happy with its construction. I expect to get several good years of service from it. August 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Tough, Practical Tool Shed This was a very easy assembly and a very practical size for all my garden tools. i have a larger shed for my large items, like my mower, so this was the perfect solution for storing all those misc. rakes, shovels and spades. My only disappointment was that there are no accessories for this shed to hang tools, but I went to Home Depot and purchased a couple of tool hanging bars and they worked great. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just what I needed to store all my small stuff. Assembly was easy, All the parts were there. It took longer to take out of the box than put together. Good looking also, fits in well. September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Met my needs!! Nice sized storage shed for my yard. It was relatively easy to put together, my wife and I did it in about 2.5 hrs. Slight trouble with the hinges, getting them right and tightening the screws enough to make sure the stayed on with opening and closing. Moved all or our yard equipment to the shed from our garage and still have plenty of room to store other items. Will explore the use of brackets and shelving for the storage shed at a later date. Should at least include brackets and shelving material for at least one shelf. The shed has gone through two torrential rainstorms and did not leak anywhere. We set it up on cement blocks 12" x12" and level. I would recommend this shed to anyone seeking storage of a small nature without spending for a large shed. August 30, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Storage shed We had a very bad experience. We drove a total of 140 miles had to return the shed. We had the shed half together getting ready to put right side on and noticed we did not have a right side we had two left sides. Had to disassemble and put back in box and return NOT HAPPY!!!!
