Hurricane resistant?

This question is from 2 ft. 8 in. x 4 ft. 5 in. x 6 ft. Large Vertical Storage Shed

I saw that this can be secured to a slab using four anchor points in the floor. Is it also possible to secure the back or sides to an adjacent structure (using angle brackets or something)? Since I live in hurricane-prone south Florida, I want to make sure that the rest of the shed won't blow away, leaving only the floor behind. I realize there's probably not much that can be done to make it hurricane-proof, but I want to be sure that the sides won't get blown off the base too easily.

No, but then not much is unless you pay thousands of dollars to build a county permitted shed. That gets expensive. It's like building an add on to your house. So for now I bought this shed and placed it in my car port. In case of a size able storm I can strap it down to brackets on my wall.

I believe it is hurricane resistant, BUT you should construct a platform and if possible, secure the sides to existing structures with brackets..

I would buy something stronger that can stand up to bad weather. This is much too light weight. The doors are not strongly attached and the material is very thin. I'd go with a Rubbermaid product and pay a bit more. That way after the hurricane, your storage unit will still be there!

The warranty does not cover Acts of Nature, including but not limited to damage caused by weather events such as wind in excess of 65 mph; tornado; hurricane; microburst; hail; flood; snow that is not removed from the roof when over 8” in depth; blizzard; extreme heat; pollution or fire events. Given your locale, you would be wise to anchor your shed as completely as possible. You might also consult with local Home Depot hardware specialists on what tie-downs they suggest and offer.

Place the floor panel on the ground first then start assembly from left to right. Screw the bolts into the hinges before you install them on the door panels. They go in from the bottom. Then turn them to fit. The instructions are confusing. Be careful installing the hasp on the bottom of the right door panel. Do not take it apart. Takes a little force to get it in place. The last part is the roof panel. Install the question mark type pieces in its location but do not connect them or snap them into the lid until they are snapped together. Read Less

No. Accept for the doors it is easy to assemble. The door hinges are a real problem and the material it's made out of is flimsy. I had to jerry-rig the doors or they would continue to fall off. For them money I would recommend another brand or pay more for a better shed.

I don't believe adding a doggie door to this shed is advisable. It would make the unit less sturdy than it already is. That said, the unit is made of plastic, and not extremely sturdy, but it does what it is made to do....store a few extra yard or pool things in it.

While it's possible to do so, you'd need to plan and prepare and obtain correct cutting tools to do so.
Also, be aware that you'd likely be voiding any warranty you'd have on the shed by doing this.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 178 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Shed, Easy to assemble. This shed was exactly what I needed and cleared up a lot of room in my garage. The assembly was simple and took me about 30 minutes to put it all together. I was very please with this shed and it now stores my folding chairs, saw horsed lot more items that use to take up space in the garage. It even held up to a rain storm and the inside of the shed remained dry, no water entered the shed! March 29, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Some minor problems, but fits my need. I constructed a concrete base for the shed with the exact measurements given in the assembly manual. While waiting for the concrete to cure before assembling the shed, I reviewed the literature on the shed on the Suncast web site and I encountered their recommendation to construct the base 3" larger in each dimension - too late for me to alter the base. The assembly was straightforward, and I was able to accomplish it with no apparent need for a 2nd person. The only glitch involved the hinges for the doors. There is a nut embedded in each hinge into which a bolt must be tightened to secure the hinge. The nuts on several of the hinges allowed a couple of turns of the bolt initially before binding. Continued forceful attempts at hand-tightening with a socket wrench resulted only in stripping the threads on the bolts. On most of them I was able to accomplish adequate tightening by using a washer under the head of the bolt, but a on couple of them the threads were stripped too close to the end to enable the bolt to start threading due to the added space of the washer. I was able to install a top and bottom hinge on each door so that the doors were functional until I could obtain new hinges and bolts. To Suncast's credit, they sent replacement parts without any hassle. They arrived yesterday but I haven't tried them yet; hopefully they will function as designed. May 13, 2016

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A good and adequate storage shed Storage shed was easy to assemble and met my expectations. It definitely needs a flat and level surface in order for the doors to fit and operate properly. Most of the assembly can be easily accomplished by one person, especially if you are pretty handy, but a couple times in the assembly it would be definitely best to have two people. May 4, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Too Flimsy for the Price Product was easy to put together and does the job, but had to place bricks beneath base to keep from cracking once weight was put on it. Plastic is so thin and flimsy that you can see sunlight through the seams. Own two other Rubbermaid storage sheds that are a much better quality than this one. April 26, 2016
