Answer:
Because the bottom edge is not pre-cut, it must be cut to fit the pitch of the roof on which it is to be installed. Plan ahead on this to be sure you will be able to make the cut without severely weakening the cupola. An alternative is to build a box to fit the roof pitch, then mount the cupola on top of that. Be sure to add flashing to adequately shed water.

Jim:
Yes, you cut the base to match the pitch of the roof. Instructions are very good for doing this.

Answer:
I would expect the weather-vane kit should have instructions for this. Personally, I would be concerned about messing up the copper roof. It comes fully wrapped to avoid getting finger prints on the copper during installation, with instructions to only remove the plastic wrap as the final step.

Answer:
The Suncast Claremont Cupola with Copper Roof Model LCC was not designed for a weathervane, Ken. We have no instructions for adding one. It would require modification to the cupola, negating any warranty. Thank you for your interest in Suncast products.

How do you recommend attaching the Suncast Claremont Cupola to the roof? Does the top come off so it can be attached from the inside?

Answer:
The top of the cupola is separate from the body, so attachments from the inside are easy and recommended. I added flashing which extended outward over the roof a few inches to be sure water is carried away, then used flashing/gutter adhesive from the inside to attach it to the roof. If putting on a roof exposed to high winds, I would consider adding "L" brackets inside.

Answer:
The Suncast Claremont Cupola with Copper Roof is assembled as a unit with the roof attached. The base of the cupola is fastened to the roof of the shed with hardware that is supplied with the kit. Thank you for your interest in Suncast products.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 3 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good quality, but pricy I'm using this to vent my shop, and it is doing that very well. Because I installed it on a roof with a 6:12 pitch, I built a box to fit under the cupola first. The straight walls of that were also easier to cut for the pitch, and allowed me to install galvanized flashing around the bottom edges which extended from one inch up the inside walls, under the bottom edge, to several inches beyond the outside walls. I also added vinyl flashing between the box and cupola to shed water away from that joint. Building a screen for the inside was easy, but might present a problem for anyone without the skills or tools. If I were doing this again, I might consider building the entire cupola myself. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by High Quality Cupola This cupola is very well constructed. Whoever assembled it was very conscientious and did not just slap it together. Cupolas in general are a little on the pricey side, but I think compared to others on the internet this cupola is a very good value for it's price, and is very well made with good materials. It is easy to install and looks great. I give it 5 stars. May 26, 2010
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This product is good value and easy to install. The Suncast cupalo was recieved in excellent condition. The construction is very good. The cupalo was easy to install and elicited many positive comments from my neighbors. The copper roof makes the structure shine in sunlight. June 15, 2013
