Customer Questions & Answers

will a standard size push lawn mover fit easily in this?

Asked by: troy
My Lawn mower is 52" long(with the handles and 23" wide approximately). However, the handles fold up on most lawn mowers. So, I would think it would fit fairly easily. However, there is the small distraction of folding and un-folding the handles. I suppose you could put it lengthwise in the shed but then that limits what else you can put in it. Note: I haven't purchased the shed yet still thinking about it and other options. I need a shed that will fit easily under my deck. It seems this one may do the trick; Still reading reviews.

Can you fit two adult bikes in this shed?

Asked by: bikemike
yes. I store two 26" bikes. Had them both in intact, but then for more space, I took the front wheel off of one, and the other bike was a folding bike. It works either way.

What type of foundation is needed?

Asked by: ekm1212
Grass, plywood, cement, just about anything as long as it's firm and reasonably level. If you plan on putting this on the ground with something heavy inside, I'd use a plywood base.

Stow-Away 3 ft. 8 in. x 5 ft. 11 in. Resin Horizontal Storage Shed is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 241.

My main purpose for this shed was to create a “garage” to protect my grand-kids’ electric cars and toys that they use in my backyard. From a design standpoint, it is the perfect size for my purpose and being able to lift the deck lid makes it easily accessible. I have two reasons for rating it 4 stars and not 5 stars. Even though the materials are acceptable, this doesn't feel as rugged as other sheds I have from other manufacturers. I wouldn’t call it flimsy, since they include metal reinforcements for the sides and lid, but the molded pieces themselves seem a bit on the thin side. The other reason for the 4 star rating is the instructions. I am very adept at building things, putting things together, and following instructions. The accompanying instructions are frustrating and difficult to follow. The illustrations are poorly detailed, and the actual wording of the instructions is exasperating at times. (Perhaps this is due to their effort to instruct in several translations.) In my opinion, if this is the first shed you’ve ever tried to assemble, it might take some time to figure it all out. Only time will tell how durable this shed really is, but if you just need a shed with convenient access and a decent amount of space to store things, it may be the perfect solution.

CAUTION: All the metal parts ( hinges, lock, support rod, etc.) are made from some sort of cheap steel that turns into "rust dust" (for lack of a better description) in no time. The lock hasp (that I never used, but some people might) disintegrated in about a year. After 3 years, the support rod was covered in a thick crumbly layer of rust (I just fashioned a new one from a 3/8" aluminum rod I purchased from HD). The door hinges are ready to go. Can't believe Suncast can't make the metal parts out of something that won't rust (galvanized steel, or aluminum). This thing will be totally useless in about a year from now (if that) once the hinges go. Nice pool supply shed while it lasts, but there's no excuse for the metal parts to give out like these do. I'll be contacting Suncast now to see what they say. I have no receipt for this, but lets see how their customer support is. If good, I'll revise this review.

The first few months it was OK. After a while the top lift system become unscrewed from the back and the top no longer closed and the doors no longer could be secured. A year later the top was ripped up by a strong wind leaving the entire shed disassembled. You get what you pay for.

The size could work for trash cans, yard equipment, bikes, etc. We just finished assembling so don't know yet how sturdy it will be.

The instructions could have been better though. Some of the drawings are hard decipher. I put it together myself on a Saturday afternoon and it went quickly until I got to the roof. But just then my son, the engineer student came home, dove right in and he helped me finish. One of the hinges was defective. I called the company the following Monday and they shipped me a replacement, no questions asked. It arrived on Friday. It works perfectly now. (Don't waste your time on their website or email. You won't hear back.) The only other thing I want to mention is that I wish the doors had some sort of handles or knobs. I might pick up a set and add them.

Many of the components and internal braces attach with very small self-tapping screws into the plastic resin material. This means that you can't really tighten them down. They just spin in the plastic. I would think that to make this unit last and be resistant to frequent use, there should be some type of harder plastic inserts or other solution so that the screws can take hold better and be tightened more. Also, I keep my BBQ grille inside and the 4 caster wheels have 'sunk' into the plastic bottom material about half way through just from the weight of a BBQ grille. If you have any items to store that are heavy, they might push through the bottom flooring.

Pros: Holes and hardware lined up well Easy assembly Hinges and lid shocks work smoothly and hold lid up - easy operation Cons: it was only 95° out and the plastic was getting soft (the last screws could basically be pushed in without turning) it very much looks like cheap plastic upper surface of floor is very soft - warps when walked across material felt very hot to touch in October sun in Tucson We'll see how this holds up once it actually gets warm next spring...i'm guessing that with 105°+ days in May it'll be too hot to touch and the plastic will warp. But, maybe i'll be wrong....hopefully.

(Town rules would have made it nearly impossible to build a permanent structure.) It was good that I had two, because Suncast has some quality control issues. Parts just aren't consistently produced, so sometimes they don't fit together properly. Since I had two, it was easy to compare the parts and document the differences for Suncast's customer support. I was also able to complete the assembly of one shed with the parts from both kits. Suncast customer support not particularly responsive to my emails, but they did end up sending me the parts I needed. The sheds look nice, and I hope they are durable. It is a little concerning that they have so many screws into soft plastic; it was really easy to over-torque the screws. Time will tell.
