Re:shipping...it it worth the 149?

The shed looks super, but was wondering if it's worth the price to ship? The model with additional windows on the side walls are free ship to home and this one would cost me $149.00 to me as there is no store pick up(free ship) option... Any thoughts or insight would be much appreciated...
Asked by: Blackrose
Have you checked your local HD to see if they have it in stock? I bought mine at the store in the garden section. I have seen them stocked at several Home Depots. The first store I went to were out of them. but said they were expecting a shipment. The boxes will fit into the back of a regular size pickup. I have had mine for almost 2 years and it has been very durable. We have had torrential rains and high winds recently without any problems.

am i to assume because this is a resin it does not need to painted? also how are the walls and such attached to each other? b

i dont want another snap together product that blows apart in the wind. thanks
Asked by: Anonymous
No paint necessary. The resin is made of the color of the shed, so it will never wear off. It does snap together, but there are lots of screws/fasteners that hold it together pretty good. A base built to the recommended standards in the owner's manual is a must, or it will feel flimsy. I don't think it will blow away, but if you want a very sturdy structure you're better off getting a wood shed.

what tools are necessary for assembly?

Asked by: JoMN
An electric drill, a masonry drill bit for drilling through the concrete slab, a drill bit for screwing masonry screws into the cement and a phillips head screw driver were the only tools we used.

Floor

I was thinking of getting 1' X 1' brick type squares to make the floor. I will be putting it up in the desert .. it will be on hard sand and level.
Asked by: JoeP
It's extremely important that all 4 walls are kept level, rigid, flat and kept in the same plane. The shed is sturdy, however; it gets it's strength from it's foundation. Three of the walls have integrity, however; the entrance is 60 inches wide out of an 81 inch interior width leaving a 10 1/2 inch column on each corner either side of the tight fitting doors. IF ... either of those corners raise or lower even a little the front will twist and you're going to have problems with the doors closing . You'll have the same problem if the middle of the floor underneath the center of the door move or flex. If there is any uneven space underneath the Vinyl Floor, when you walk upon it; it will flex; thus throwing the walls and corners out of alignment The Desert sun and heat will soften the resin making everything more flexible and make all the problems worse. Then anchoring is accomplished with 6 - 1/4" bolts. One in each of the 4 corners and another in the center of each side I wouldn't think that the weight of 6- 1' x 1' concrete brick squares are going to resist the wind from blowing this shed away like Dorthy's house in the Wizard of 0z ..... ..... I wouldn't put it on a pad of 1 x 1 squares. The floor is 84" 86" outside dimensions and 81" x 81" inside dimensions.

How wide is the door?

Im looking to find out how wide the door is. I have an ATV that I want to get out of my garage. I thought about building my own shed, but the plastic would last much much longer than wood.

Will a foundation of pea gravel work?

I plan to place the shed on a bed of pea gravel about 4" deep, bordered by 8" landscape timbers and leveled as much as possible - will this work? How should I anchor the shed in this case?
Asked by: John
I have mine on level sand. It seems ok for my intended purpose, using it as a giant dog house. My contractor said if I had any problems, they would move the shed for me, pour a concrete slab, and move it back. So far, seems fine on sand. Its just been a few weeks.

Sutton 7 ft. 3 in. x 7 ft. 4.5 in. Resin Storage Shed is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 484.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from From Soft sides to Hard Sides We had a fabric and wood frame Shelter/Shed that we stored potting materials and such in, it died. This kit was terrific, small enough to do preassemble things inside the house and carry pieces out to assemble and the finished product is terrific. I bought several of the wall rack assemblies, the over head rack seems too small and too low to be useful. A person could easily add a window. I own a lot of Suncast Outdoor products, this is the biggest but they have all been great products, you can trust Suncast.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gravel foundation prepped in 2hrs, shed assembled in 4 hours with ladder & helper Needed a place to store four bicycles, hitch rack carrier, garden tools, buckets, hoses & anything else that wouldn't fit in our trailer in northern Wisconsin...this waterproof unit fit our needs perfectly. Instead of spending half a day building a wood platform, we used a one cubic yard composite mixture of sand and fine gravel, in a 25%/75% ratio, then tamped it down to flat, using a 3' level to check until flat. One yard of mixture works well because it allows for a four inch foundation layer plus about one foot apron beyond the shed base (see picture below). Flooring is tight enough as assembled to keep out moisture without need for caulking, either between the two floor pieces or between floor and walls. However, to ensure the interior stayed dry, we made the following moisture abatement enhancements: 1) caulked the roof to wall, and wall to wall seams, using a 5.5 oz tube of clear DAP Kwik Seal kitchen & bath adhesive, and 2) installing door sweeps on door bottoms to prevent "bounce back" water from collecting under door edges during hard rains. Small screened louvered vents on front & back headers provide just enough airflow to keep shed interior relatively dry without allowing rain/snow to enter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice Shed As others have noted - building the base takes longer and is more challenging than putting the shed up. Nothing hard really, but you'll want to make sure your measurements are right and it will need to be fairly level. I worked with my brother in-law for about 5 hours on mine, we were moving at a relaxed pace and stopped for 45 minutes to grill some burgers too. So 4 - 5 hours should be plenty of time for 2 people for assembly. For the most part it's easy and all the pieces fit together pretty well. The roof is the most challenging bit but if you go slow and make sure everything is lined up right you will be fine. Overall the shed looks great and thus far mine has withstood several heavy rainstorms and has stayed dry inside. It's a nice size, fits my push mower and a couple bikes with room to spare for the patio furniture later this Fall. One last thing - the product description says it's 7 foot 3 inches by 7 foot 4.5 inches which isn't accurate. The base you build is 84" X 85 1/4" which is 7 foot by 7 foot 1 1/4 inches.

It won't last for 100 years, but that's not what I wanted. I just needed something to keep my tractor out of the weather, and that's just what this will do, with a little extra room as an added bonus. The directions were good, and it was easy to put together with one reasonably skilled worker and one not-so-skilled. The one thing I think needs to be pointed out is that the design of the instructions is flawed a bit in my opinion. If you build the shed and put it on a wooden platform, as I had to do, the plans tell you to build a platform virtually the same size as the base that comes with the shed. That means that rain run-off will come off the side of the shed and then can easily work its way under the shed's base and get trapped between the shed base and the wooden platform, eventually leading to rot. I tried to head that off by installing drip edge between the shed base and the platform, with a bead of caulking to seal the joint at the drip edge and the shed. That seemed to be the best I could do to prevent the rot. But the shed itself is just what I hoped it would be in the price range I could afford. The only reason I couldn't give it a 5 was because I think the hinges are pretty weak on the doors. I'm going to have to be very careful with them. I'm not sure how many guys really want to be careful with their shed...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from My initial impression was it seemed good, and if it had been made properly it might be. Unfortuna... My initial impression was it seemed good, and if it had been made properly it might be. Unfortunately, the unit came with only 2 side panels and an extra right front corner panel instead of the 3rd Side panel. Home Depot was great in the process, but Suncast did not want to take care of me. A week after I called them I still do not have the panel and their attitude is uncaring. I paid expedited shipping but they said that was Home Depot's problem. Suncast refused to compensate the shipping and refused to expedite the replacement part. The phone rep said "sir we have 7 to 10 days so we did our part". The local Home Depot was great and I will have a shed, but I won't buy another Suncast nor would I recommend them. A manufacturer that won't stand behind its product or show concern for customers is a gamble. I recommend Home Depot, but not Suncast.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Build Foundation first, great buy, exactly what we needed Make sure you download the instruction manual for the directions on how to lay the foundation for the shed. I built a wooden frame foundation that sits on concrete piers. It took me 6 hours to build the foundation and then a buddy helped me build the shed the next day in about 3 hours. With it being a plastic shed, you need to make sure the foundation is solid and level, otherwise you will have a hard time getting all the pieces to fit together. I love it. It was simple and straight forward. Would definitely buy again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful shed It's a beautiful shed but be prepared to spend a couple of days putting it up. One day to build the platform and another setting it up. I did it by myself but definitely wouldn't hurt having an extra set of hands. As long as you build your platform strong and level, there's no reason this shed won't be around for a LONG time ?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thanks for giving me my garage back I'm very pleased with the shed. It's attractive, was easy to build, sturdy, and gave me my garage back. I assembled it mostly myself and needed help from my wife while putting the roof on. The project took about 3-4 hours because the instructions weren't the easiest to follow and the wooden base took about 1 hour. There's plenty of space in it, so I put a metal rack inside for shelving. Also, there's plenty of areas along the wall to insert s-hooks so that I can hold tools on the walls. It's really a versatile shed and we are very happy.
