Questions & Answers

is this fan is a blower ot exhaust fan?

Asked by: benny
It would simply depend on the direction the fan was installed in.

Will this fan turn on and off with the main blower?

Asked by: Bonz
Hello, As it comes out of the box there is nothing that switches the fan on/off. You can wire the fan to operate with the main blower. We normally recommend an HVAC technician handle that wiring. There are many different types of HVAC systems and you would need expert help with that wiring. Thanks, Suncourt

As an exhaust fan will it help remove cigar smoke?

Asked by: DJB
It really depends on the environment. If it is being used in a basement or a room in the house it should work pretty well. If it is a cigar shop where there might be several people smoking at one time you may need something more powerful.

distance from main ac blower

Need to use this to boost the pressure to the vents at the "end of the line". These will be approx 100' from the main AC blower and most of the flex duct is 12" with some 8 " leading to individual vents. I would guess that the booster should be situated about 60' or maybe even 75' from the A/C. It is a package A/C unit and might not need a booster. I was planning on feeding the power to the booster fan from the same circuit that runs the main AC blower so that they cut off and on at the same time, Also thought about adding a variable speed control in case full speed" pulled too much air-flow away from the first air-vents in the lineup, You have this option for some fans can it be used on this one?
Asked by: Qfla
The optimal placement of the fan is 6'-10' back from the register you are trying to boost to. Using one fan to boost to multiple registers is typically asking a lot of a single duct booster fan. It should help the airflow but they are designed to boost to a single register. You will also need to consider fan noise. The 12" fan is louder than the 6" or 8" fans that are most often used for this application. Using a speed control will help reduce noise if it becomes a factor but it will also reduce the airflow the fan produces so you have have some trade offs to consider as you describe your application. Do not use a dimmer switch or rheostat to control the speed of this fan. It will quickly burn it out. You can use a solid state speed control such as the VS200 or VS100 which are both available through Home Depot.
