Answer:
It is rated for two and a half amps. Check the plate on your buffer and make sure that it will work. Your question suggests you may be thinking of something else. This is a wall mounted controller, and it is normally hard-wired to one device. Using it with a buffer is a bit unusual, but it would probably work.

Answer:
Check the electrical rating of the buffer. The switch is rated at 120 VAC, 60 Hz, 2.5 amps. It will not work with anything above these specifications.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It works I bought a fan that needed a wall-mounted controller like this one. I bought it because it looked solid and had good reviews. It was easy to install, and it works great. What else can you say? July 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fan Control It was just as I expected. Doesn't take the fan speed low enough for me. Only reduces fan speed by 1/3 total from 1700 rpm to 1200. I needed one that would go to zero speed. I'll keep looking. April 28, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Finally, a speed controller that DOES work with these fans It remains a mystery as to why a speed controller made by Suncourt doesn't work with their own fans, but I found a controller that does work just fine, a Leviton IllumaTech Quite Step. It's made for ceiling fans, but I thought if it works with AC motors, it's worth a shot. I still need to see how it performs over the next several months, make sure it doesn't put any additional strain on the motor, but so far it works exactly like I'd hoped. I have the Suncourt 4" duct fan, and it puts out some serious air normally and I needed to reduce it a bit, and this switch allows me 4 speed control settings. Hope this helps others. May 20, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Do Not Buy This Maybe this works with some fans, but this does not work with any suncourt fans. I read online that people were burning out their normal fans with this but the instructions for my inline duct fan said this was compatable so I dismissed the reviews. My mistake; After a day or two, the fan slowed down a lot. Even when the dial was on max it was less then half the power it was before. I had to return this product and exchange the fan I had been using a year for a new one, luckily I saved my original box. I dont know why this product is sold, google it for more reviews. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Doesn't work with Suncourt Fans As others have experienced, this does not do what Suncourt says. I saw one positive review, so I thought I would try it on my RDN04‑3. Just made the motor hum/ buzz, but didn't change the speed (maybe slightly). HD was great and took the return no questions. I have read that using a variac should work (3x cost), so I will try that next. If that fails, then I will have to find a different fan. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this product.
