Customer Questions & Answers

can i put a 2000 watt gen on top

Asked by: frank
The 30 ft. tower is designed for smaller systems with a maximum weight of approximately 20 pounds. A 2000W generator may require a heavier duty tower kit.

Customer Reviews

30 ft. Wind Turbine Tower Kit is rated 2.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from OK, not for a high wind zone however. Even when installed correctly the pipe tower seems to have a lot of flex and maybe a stronger pipe would be better in a high wind zone.

You don't need the Eiffel Tower to put up a 400-500W turbine. This tower kit is really pretty good for the price and what you're putting on top of it. Lectric is right, the line about grounding should be dropped. But it's not particularly hard to ground this kit. And they do include instructions for grounding it. We just put one of these up, and the tower kit was the easiest part of the project (nothing compared to the wiring). The anchors work great (we were driving into clay/loam farm soil). The tower itself was like 2 minutes to put together. The pipes are all flared and just slide into each other. They've pre-measured, cut, and partly assembled the guy-wire system for you. They couldn't do more than that - it has to be adjusted to your site. And grounding the whole thing was about $30 and an extra half hour (most of that to drive the ground rod). The problems we ran into were 1) mis-connecting guy wires, which they warn you about, and we knew to avoid, and still had to re-do; 2) their instructions for the cable clamps weren't quite clear, and we had spend extra time when we realized they said two cable clamps per wire - still our mistake, but they could have included a picture of that; and 3) for some reason, their bolt / nut to attach the tower to the base had some kind of threading problem. After about 1/2 inch it turned into a metal/metal lock nut, and I knew I'd shear the bolt if I tried to take it back off. But it's not coming off either, which was most of the point.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Grounding materials are not supplied so how is that considered to be safe? The product description states that this complete tower installation "Safely grounds the wiring" yet no grounding cable or physical 8' copper grounding post is included. So how does the complete tower installation provide what is stated?; you will find out after you purchase the complete tower installation that it doesn't and is incomplete in that respect and you will have to purchase these items to "Safely ground the wiring".
