Can this unit be used to charge a battery bank that is already been charged by solar panels?

are you sure this unit comes equipped with an inverter? That seems unlikely. A charge regulator and an inverter, I don't see how that is contained?

Asked by: barn1
It self regulates the required charge to the batteries directly and won't overcharge.

How "smart" is the charge controller? Can the unit be switched off?

To get a proper charge, a lead/acid battery must be brought up to its acceptance voltage and then held there for a period of time, before backing off to a float voltage to maintain the battery. 1). What is the charge profile of the included controller? 2). Is the controller external (i.e. to be mounted somewhere in a protected location), or internal to the turbine? 3). Can the unit be switched off? E.g. if no further charging is needed, or if a storm is coming? Thanks!

It's smart. It can be switched off

One observation: when winds gust above 25 mph, it sense either over speed or high voltage, and self-brakes for about 5 minutes before restarting automatically. Effective above 10 mph. Finish has stayed good in the harsh salt air environment. I don't know how quiet or loud the stock blades are as I used the super quiet blades from our previous AirX wind gen. Installation is simple, controller is internal, just wire directly to the batteries with a fuse and included braking switch. The blades look bent in the picture because they're spinning. Performs equivalent to the $1200 AirX that this is copied from, at less than half the price, and includes the reversing switch that AirX did not.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 400 Watt AirX Wind Generator This little unit is awesome. It does not connect to the grid, but has a terrific output. A bit of advice: Be sure to use the proper guage wire for maximum benefit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wind Power! This is the most wonderfull most important investment I have made for my family and I. We live in a very ruel area and the power gives out many times. Cost of candles and batteries. Gas generator did cost plenty. And GAS prices. Whew! Thank you Homedepot you have saved us time and money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hooked it up and the charge controller doesn't work or charge the battery was easy to set up, and remember to use wire attached to your pole, n,s,e,w, or 2' circle and 2' deep of concrete. We had 57 mph winds and the wind turbine is 20' up on a pole and 2 of the blades broke. I am trying to get 2 blades for the last 4 days.
