Customer Questions & Answers

Will this charge my RV 12 volt battery

The battery is running low, so will this charge it back to 100% and then maintain it.
Asked by: sak
This product can recharge a battery over a long period of time if fully depleted. It will then continue to maintain the battery. Please note that this process assumes that the battery is idle, without any drain or consumption by any device.

Can I place it under a window in the car?

Or must it be outside of the car?
Asked by: Dimensions
Yes, this product can be placed inside a car next to the window. It will likely have a better efficiency level when placed in direct sun.

For a 95ah car/truck sealed lead acid battery: 1. Can this charger be used without disconnecting the battery terminals from the vehicle and not harm the electronics/alternator of the vehicle? If it has to be disconnected, does only the negative terminal have to be disconnected, or does both the negative and positive terminals have to be disconnected? 2. What provisions does the built-in controller have to prevent damage to the battery or the vehicle electronics/alternator, such as: The system is protected against sparks, short-circuit and reverse voltage, water jets and dust particles (IP65). Charges with the correct voltage and correct charging current. Fully automatic, 4-stage charging. Pulsed trickle charge function. Ensures longest possible battery life. Capable of charging totally flat batteries. Please be specific on what the controller has and does not have. 3. How long can the charger be left connected without damaging the battery or electronics/alternator, or depleting the water/electrolyte in the battery? Please provide a specific time period such as 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, 6 years....and not just "months" or "a long time". 4. Will this charger overcome the parasitic drain (things that still drain the battery when the key is Off/removed), and still provide enough amps to keep the battery fully charged? Please be specific. For example, to answer yes to this question, would the battery have to be 98-100% charged to begin with? What about if it was 80%.... 50%....?
Asked by: Skip
The 5 Watt Trickle charger is simply designed to offset the natural discharge of your battery. There is no risk of overcharge as the unit only provides enough current to maintain the battery. There is no need to remove the charger as there is a blocking diode preventing any back-feeding of energy, and the unit will not interfere with the alternator. As for parasitic drain, you must contact the manufacturer to see what the consumption is to ensure you have the power you need.

I have two of these (motorcycle and car) and they work very well, I checked the voltage with the sun behind some trees and it read 19.5V so you will get a good charge. However the cord is very short, I think about 4 ft max so you will need to buy and extension. I got a 25 ft one on-line for about 8 bucks. Still a good deal with the extension cord.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use...time will tell how well it works HD has a very competitive price on this panel. I have it hooked up to the battery of a Miata that tends to sit through the winter with little use. Since the summer months are warm and the car gets driven semi-regularly, I can't fully say how this will work out. I measured the output of the panel and it is around 19 volts rather than the 12 advertised. I don't know if this will end up being an issue or not.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I think I love you!!!! This has no voltage reader, but I am pretty sure it is helping my car stay charged. My car issue is lack of use and that I have an car alarm running all the time, and it is freezing outside. The customer service for this Canadian company sunforce - "Fernando" is the best he knows his products. If a car does not have a live car lighter socket then this charger needs to be plugged into the odb2 port instead. I do not have a live lighter socket and I used a obd2 adaptor and it appears to be powering the alarm and feeding the battery. My car was dead and it is alive again this got help somewhere...and it only has this charger.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best battery buddy I needed a trickle charger to top off my trolling motor battery at the dock, far from any 110 V outlet. This unit does the job. Lower price than the same unit from Amazon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good trickle charger This trickle charger works as advertised . Were very pleased This was the 4 th one. All bought from home depot. Trick is to have your battery fully charged to start with, then hook up the unit to keep your battery fully charged up. They keep your battery topped off, we let our vehicle's set for long period's of time without driving them. Remember to always unplug the trickle charger BEFORE starting your car. If you don;t it will ruin them. Thanks, Ken
