Product Overview

The Sunoptics Prismatic 26-5/8 in. x 50-5/8 in. Venting Double Hip Skylight is an energy efficient way to properly illuminate the interior of your home while allowing the added benefit of natural air ventilation. Sunoptics prismatic designs provide up to 50 percent more light than traditional white bubble skylights while also providing 100 percent diffusion to eliminate hot spots while providing glare-free natural light for more hours per day. The superior frame provides moisture protection redundancy and a fully insulated thermal break that encapsulates the underside of the frame to greatly reduce condensation concerns. Add value and visual comfort to your home by utilizing high performance prismatic skylights from Sunoptics.

  • Prismatic lenses provide the maximum amount of light with 100 percent diffusion while eliminating hot spots and glare
  • Triple glazed, impact-modified acrylic prismatic lenses provide additional thermal protection while maximizing visible transmission of light compared to conventional plastic skylights
  • Pyramid-shaped lens design collects daylight at lower sun levels when compared to flat lenses
  • Powder-coated bronze aluminum frame is fully welded and sealed eliminating expansion and contraction concerns as well as thermal bridging that can come from mechanically attached frames
  • Multi-surface wet seal and integral condensation and exterior weep gutters drain any interior moisture out of the frame and away from the building reducing exposure to moisture penetration
  • Manual skylight operator with integral bug screen provides ventilation for the space without allowing pests indoors
  • Vent operation requires the sunoptics telescopic venting operator pole (sold separately)
  • Flashing kit available for curb installation (sold separately)
  • AAMA certified to US and Canadian standards

Customer Questions & Answers

How do I open it?

How do you open and close the skylight? Is there a rod or something? Does it come with the window or is it extra? Do you have 2 x 4 venting skylight with solar operation?
Asked by: kikl
Home Depot sells the "Sunoptics Telescopic Venting Operator Pole" separately. The exact thing you need to open a vented skylight.

Do they hold up to hail?

Asked by: Homeowner
We have had two Sunoptics skylights at our home for over twenty-five years. One of them cracked, so it's time for a replacement. (Good news: the crack is on the top layer only, so there is no leak to fix!) Our are the old flat style, not double-hip style, and ours are not vented. However, we have been VERY happy with them, and will be upgrading to double-hip and vented. In fact, we installed three more of the new style in our home addition.) We live in the Sierra Nevada mountains, and we get hail. And snow. No problem, except for the noise! We really like the prismatic lens - it diffuses the light very nicely through the room. When we go to a home that has more-expensive Velux clear or translucent glass, it seems strange to have a window in the ceiling that put a shaft of light into a single spot.

Can these be installed sideways?

Can these be installed sideways like in the promotional picture?
Asked by: HauntsWalk
Of course you can. But is it a good idea? If you live in a place that never gets rain or snow, and never gets any leaves or other debris to build up along the longer edge, you probably won't have any trouble with a sideways installation. For a fixed skylight, that is. It would be very unwise to install a vented skylight sideways: too much potential for water infiltration.

how does this skylight perform regarding heat compared to a low-E one? I live in Southern California and I'm concerned that this skylight might heat up the house. Thank you!

Customer Reviews

Prismatic 2 ft. x 4 ft. Venting Curb-Mounted Double Hip Skylight is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well worth the money The build quality looks good but I didn't provide a 5 star review because the skylights were just installed and I have no idea about the durability of the product. I will say awesome for the price point and the venting option is great. I would never buy another fixed light again. I currently have two installed and (2) months later I just purchased (3) more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Low cost and good value The product performed as expected. Easy to install for contractor. It did have two dents in the metal frame caused by shipping but was handled to satisfaction by customer service. Dents did not cause problem with the installation. An opening rod which is a requirement had to be purchased separately and was out of stock. I had to wait two weeks to open the vented skylight with the proper tool. All these problems were not the fault of the product so that is why I gave it a good rating.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Arrived, contractor came to install and it was bent in both corners, too late to send back, he was able to pound it out. Looks very nice, works great, unfortunately when contractor arrived to install it, when he opened it the corners were bent, he was able to hammer out the bends making it not look very nice, to late to return he was here then. Otherwise it is very nice and opens well. The store did give me a credit, but I hated using damaged goods.
