Questions & Answers

Is this water proof

Asked by: eric
It is my experience that these panels, installed per technical specifications exactly, are NOT water proof. At 1.5" drop per foot (minimum per manufacturer) the panels are flexible enough at their overlaps to allow enough of a gap in places so that water "wicks" between the layers and migrates over into the inside. Lots of drips and runs! This product was a major disappointment. Evidently, per tech support, they are not "warranted against leakage." I find it incredible that a roofing product with "industry best warranty" (per Home Depot) is not warranted not to leak if properly applied using proper techniques, components, fasteners, etc.! I will have to replace the entire roof and now that I have framed and built it precisely for these panels I am stuck for a solution.

I'm building a cabin in Central Wyoming and want to use this a roofing. What is the coldest temperature this will withstand? Is there any R value to these?
Asked by: TheHun
I've had them installed in Denver for ten years or so and have had zero problems. I guess cold could be a factor if you have pine cones dropping on them when it's really cold but polycarbonate is tough so I doubt if low temps would ever be a problem. This may not be for this exact product, but the spec sheet for a corrugated polycarb sheet shows a U-value of 1.2. Inverting that number gives an R-value of 0.83, or about the same as a single pane of glass. https://www.sundancesupply.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/CorrInstall.pdf

I purchased 28 8' panels for a pergola roof and all of them were out of square and differing lengths. That shouldn't be an issue on a manufactured product. The panels look nice but just be aware that you may have to square up every panel. That made what should have been a fairly simple job a real pain. I have sent an email to palram to see what they will do. I will edit this review based on there response.

Worth it to pay up for this product if you are using this outdoors (ha ha). The cheaper clear plastic roofing gets brittle and fails within a year of Arkansas weather (16 to 100 degrees). This stuff doesn't fail and last literally for years. I use it to cover a section of my chicken coops yard and also to provide a wind barrier for the chickens underneath their coop. I use screws with wingnuts so I can put it on when it starts getting cooler (for the windbreak), the roof has been up for two years already.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Replaced 40-year-old fiberglass panels with these polycarbonate panels about eight years ago on a rental property. The fiberglass worked fine but it's almost opaque...I needed transparent panels because the cover is on the east; otherwise it's too gloomy in the winter. Installed with neoprene gasketed self-drilling screws. They still look new after eight years of intense mile-high-altitude sunshine, three feet snowfalls, and 1/2" hail. Perfection! IMHO the square corrugation profile is appropriate in an urban area. Much more acceptable than the old fashioned curved profile.

Crush with feet and it snaps right back. cuts with skill saw or long tin shears. Solar grey still allows smokey visual of landscape and trees, moonlight etc.

We previously used this to cover part of the patio but this time we made two walls to keep the patio cleaner plus warmer and dryer in the winter months. It's light and easy to work with and lets in a lot of sun.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product failed within 6 months Installed the gray panels on my 4x8 backyard shed. At the 5 month mark I noticed that the plastic had cracked around about a dozen of the screws. Will be returning and replacing with galvanized metal sheets.
