The Superior Faux Rustic Time Weathered Beams are replicas of aged timbers with dents, divots and running cracks. 1000's of customers can't be wrong, Superior faux beams are a beautiful addition to any project. The T 17A is 7-3/4 in. wide x 6-1/8 in. high x 11 ft. 6 in. long. These beams are light weight and can easily be installed with just 2 people. Are there outside corners and end available? If I cut to size I will end-up with a exposed end. Also because of the finish/texture, I am concerned if I try to do 45 degree miter cuts for outside corners, this will not join seamlessly. Any solutions available for ends / outside corners?
Asked by: NSILVA
There are no corners available for the faux beams. The beams will have to be cut on a 45 to create the corner. You can hide the joint with one of our faux iron straps. The straps can be glued right over the seam. Please look at the S 02, this might be your best option. The second option is to go with an unfinished beam. You would make the cuts to the beam as needed and then glue the pieces together. Using a 220-sand paper lightly sand the higher edge of the beam down to meet the lower edge. Once this is done, apply wood filler to the joint and over the area sanded and allow to completely dry. Once dry, apply a quality latex primer. Once the primer is dry, you can then apply a Semi-Solid deck stain. The stain can be made to just about any color. For finishing tips, please contact our customer care team at 888-328-9232

Of the three beams I have used all have been 11'6" plus (3/4", plus 1", plus 1/4') It looks like a minimal amount over to account for minor end dings.

I need to install up-lights and down-lights from this beam and run the wires through the beam. Is it possible ? safe? code complaint?
Asked by: NSILVA
Yes, wiring and lighting can be run through the beams. We do uplighting and downlighting in the beams at our trade shows. In regards to code compliance, you will need to check with your local building code office. Building codes vary from city to city.

7-3/4 in. x 6-1/8 in. x 11 ft. 6 in Faux Wood Beam is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Came damaged The piece was packaged nicely. There were labels that said "this product left the factory in perfect condition " to inspect before taking delivery, well the shipping company left the item on my driveway when I wasn't home. I opened the box and i could immediately see a crack the entire length of the beam. This was clearly a manufacturing defect. I waited weeks for this product and homedepot recommended I return this 12' long box to my nearest homedepot. I ended up fixing the crack and keeping it in lieu of the hassle. I was disappointed and should have pursued a discount but taking the product to the store wasn't and option for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing is really cool! What a cool idea! This faux beam is made out of foam (something between the expanding stuff in a can and the pink foam board). It's rigid enough to stand up to some man handling while fitting and shaping it, but it's not brittle like you would expect. They use a cast/mold that was clearly made from a real wooden beam. This thing has all kinds of "hand shaping" marks like you would expect to see on a 200 year old beam. It's pre-finished in a medium brown - and looks very realistic. You don't realize it's fake until you get a few inches away from it or touch it. If it's up on a ceiling no one will be that close anyways. The beam is U shaped and you just slip it over a 2x4 and run a few screws or nails into it to overcome gravity. Honestly it's light enough that two screws will hold the whole thing. In our case we thought the beam was a little "too much" for the space, so we ran it through a table saw to remove an inch or so from the top. It held up to the table saw just fine and fit the look of the space. We cut it to length with a miter saw on one side, and a hand (trim) saw on the other side. I think I would recommend using a hand saw if you need to cut it. The miter saw worked fine but the blade is so fast it almost "melts" more than it "cuts". You'll be happier with the results of a hand saw and it's so easy to cut it barely takes more than a few strokes. Really easy to work with, really authentic looking, and really simple to install. It's a winner all the way around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality FAUX beam I had the opportunity to test this beam. I can say it is the highest quality I have had. The ends are finished so an exposed end still looks just like real wood in those cases THIS IS DECORATIVE and is not structural. It is modeled after a real beam with no repetitive patterns. Easy to install and looks so good the rooms I do get compliments. Minimal construction time. If you wish, this is also paintable. Since this is a dense foam product I would suggest only interior use. I have used the scrap pieces to make seasonal outside planters. Home Depot has a great set of photos and video installation help. I tested the company with a call and found them very informed and helpful. As a note please understand that this beam is a hollow foam product and takes helpful hands to instal. It is fragile until installed. Dings and marks can be filled with standard wood putty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome look of aged wood! This faux wood beam looks very realistic and has a beautiful rustic appearance. The patterns are very well done to give it the character of aged wood. Since it is constructed with polyurethane foam, it is very lightweight but I would have liked to have thicker and sturdier corners. It has two supports near the end of each side, but the foam is fragile. This beam would be excellent on a ceiling, but since one of the corners are damaged, I have placed it outside to use as a decorative accent. It looks great and the cracks are difficult to see because of the design. (Repairs are simple on these beams. I repaired the cracks on the inside with construction adhesive for poly and filled in the cracks on the outside with a stainable exterior wood filler and walnut stain.) When the beam gets weathered, I plan on using an exterior stain on it. I like that these beams are available in many sizes or a special size can be requested.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Interesting, but hollow When I ordered this, I thought it would be a solid composite faux wood beam. It does look like a wonderful wood beam on three sides. The underside, however, is hollow. We couldn't use it for our original plans, so we have decided to use it to mark off a parking area. It would be great around a garden area, also.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lightweight, hollow beams Measured out fairly accurately. This hollow beam has brown wood stain on 3 sides and the 2 ends, (indoor stain, I think. Doesn't stink.) It's open along one side lengthwise, kind of like a trough, and is vanilla colored along that side and on the inside. It is very light and easily carried around and lifted by one person, though would need a second to keep level if hanging or installing on a ceiling. My hands got a little of the brown stain on them while carrying, but washed off easily. I'm using this outside as part of a garden fence and the stain, so far has not worn off, even with heavy rains. It probably will eventually but will repaint with exterior stain when needed. It can hold a stain which is nice. You can order a plain one and make it any color you want. It looks like wood from a distance but doesn't feel like wood at all. So far rabbits and squirrels have left it alone. Had originally hoped to make a long bench with this but I don't think it's sturdy enough to support a heavy adult's weight. It is not board hard or stiff, rather it has some flex to it. The material is easily sawed and you can put screws, nails or even pushpins through it. It may not be able to handle hanging something as heavy as a metal light fixture from, but string lights, fish netting, paper lanterns should be no problem. This is fun stuff, has some limitations but definitely an object for creativity.
