CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 5 out of 5 by 1 reviewer.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Product! I recently bought an investment property with plans to perform the semi-major renovations myself while living in the house during a temporary job assignment. I am a petite female veterinarian with moderate home improvement experience (not a professional contractor by any means). The bathroom had to be completely gutted and I went with this product as the bath/shower surround with the matching tub. Installation of the new tub and the surround was simple and took all of 10-15 minutes. I had minor assistance from a friend (they held one side of a panel in place while I started screwing it to the studs on the other side), but absolutely could have done this alone in the same amount of time. The quality is fantastic (material is thick and not at all flimsy) and the grey granite color looks amazing (also bought a matching vanity top/sink in the same color). Installed it looks very high end regardless of the price range. When considering the relatively low price range this came in compared to similar products, it was an incredible value for the $. It cleans easily and I have had no problems after using it for 6 months now. The only issue I encountered related to the product during installation was that the edge on one side piece that articulates with a slot along the side of the main back piece to hold everything in relative position was a little off and required a couple hits from a rubber mallet to get it seated (the other side slid right in). Tips for installation/what the directions don't tell you: The floor must be level relative to the studs (my circa 1950 house had a significant slope of the floor and I had to level it out to fit the surround in the stud pocket). The directions say you don't need to, but I highly recommend the optional caulking of all the seems between the panels and between the panels and tub to prevent crud accumulation in the small spaces. Directions say to mount it directly to studs (big plus in my case since I had to strip the entire room down to studs), but it can absolutely be mounted over dry wall/backer board or an intact wall, you just have to apply a trim or molding around the edges (no need to take down walls if your remodel project isn't as drastic). Both end panels have a built-in double shelf alcove centered on the panel, and despite the instructions, you can still use the fancier single handled shower sets with this surround - the large round handle fits nicely within one section of the alcove - you just need to make sure the plumbing is positioned appropriately (I had to completely re-do the plumbing to the shower anyway in my case and this was easy and worked out great). I shopped around extensively comparing prices, and Home Depot had the best price for this model by far. Overall I am extremely happy with this product, would buy it again in a heartbeat, and would recommend it to family and friends. December 16, 2011
