Will this transmit from back yard to front?

My back neighbors have moles which keep getting into my yard and causing my dog to dig. I was thinking about one of these in the farthest corner of my back yard - BUT I do not want to run off the chipmunks that live in the front yard. What is the range on this with obstructions? There would be a paved driveway and 1300 sqft brick house with basement to go through. In addition to the yard space.
Asked by: AlvinCanStay
It makes the beeping transmitting sounds. But I've had moles tunnel inches away from the spike .It seems as if they love to eat while the beat goes on. Save your money.

Does this mole solar spike work in the winter time? Live in Minnesota where it gets really cold and possibly get lots of snow. Thank you!

Have moles that are wrecking my yard.
Asked by: MoleHater
If you have one that is working, I would remove it from the ground and put it in a dry warm place. The cold will zap a spike. Of course the moles work more in the warmer parts of the month, but I would store the unit and turn it off in the colder weather.

Mole and Gopher Solar Spike is rated 2.9 out of 5 by 65.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gopher deterant Seems to work good unless you put it into an existing hole where the dirt isn't tightly against the sides.

I never heard a sound coming out of either one of them. This is in southern California where we have lots of sun. I called the company and was told it should take five days to charge. Too long. Nothing happened in a full week. I returned them and got another brand. On the instructions it said to charge it for 2 days in the OFF position, and then turn on., That worked. It did NOT say that on your instructions and it was too late to try because I had already taken them back. So maybe your product does work if it gets charged in the OFF position. But you need to put that in your instructions. And your customer service people need to be informed. 5 days is too long to wait for a charge, not with bright sunny days!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gopher Stake I was skeptical of this product and heard that it worked so I purchased one and surprisingly it has kept the Gophers out of my yard.

I rated these 3 stars for Average because I'm not sure about the effectiveness of them. I don't want to slam a product but I have my doubts about them. I had trapped a few gophers shortly before deploying these spikes but at least in one area there is recent gopher activity so its hard to tell if it is deterring the gophers or not. Being on a 1 acre lot maybe I need one closer to where that activity was found? Now, after about a week, 2 of the 5 spikes I purchased seemed to have stopped working. I turned them off and placed them under a light to try to make sure that the battery is charged, but when I turn them back on I hear nothing.... the other 3 keep buzzing along. That brings me to another important point. The name "Sonic Spike" might make some consumers (like me) believe that these spikes send out an ultrasonic sound that would bother the gophers but people don't hear. Wrong! Every 30 seconds these spikes make a buzzing/vibration sound that people can hear very clearly. They are not excessively loud so it's not like that is a big problem per-se, but don't plan on putting these spikes near the windows of your house unless you want to hear buzzing every 30 seconds 24/7. So they buzz and you CAN hear them; not sure they are deterring gophers as I've seen recent activity; and 2 of the 5 seemed to have stopped buzzing at all so I must presume they are not working any longer or the battery went dead. Thus far I'm a little disappointed but I'm still willing to give them a chance. For me the jury is still out on these devices.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gophers gone! I put one of these over a year and a half ago and it worked. No more gophers. Then, just last week, the holes returned. I realized I didn't hear the sound from the spike. I found out that the solar panel had been covered by overgrown plant leaves. So, I moved the spike to where it could be re-charged. I heard the sound again and....no more gophers, again! I plan on buying another one in case this one needs to be replaced.

The product is either taking its time to get the moles to leave or I need another one that works. What I have against this unit is that it doesn't tell when or if you need a new battery. That is all but giving that it has had 2-3 weeks to make an impact on the moles, I can't tell it has made a difference, they have not gone and they are still digging.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sonically rid moles We moved to a new house surrounded on 2 sides by woods/natural area. We have had mole tunnels all through the yard. Bought and installed the Sweeney's Solar powered spikes and after one week have seen significant improvement, so bought 3 more to cover the rest of yard. Hopefully the victory will continue as well as it has started. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Skeptical, but worked for me! I was having issues with moles in my mulch and lawn. Tried chemicals and traps but they wouldn't stop. Picked up a few of these about 2 weeks ago and placed them around my yard. I was happy to see that after a few days no new tunnels popped up and it appears the moles moved on. I have heavy clay and the instructions indicate clay and other heavy soil will net the best results. They do feel a little flimsy so I was cautious pushing them in the ground. Also, you can hear the tone. While brief, it's definitely annoying when you're trying to enjoy some R&R. You can power them off though in that case. Definitely recommend.
