Customer Reviews

18 in. White LED Edge Lit Under Cabinet Light Starter Kit is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Consumes less, produces more This LED fixture is light weight, very easy to install and looks sleek under the cabinet. To install, you will need a drill, a 1/16” drill bit and a Phillips screw driver. Drill is required to make pilot holes ¼” deep. It comes with a template that makes installation process very easy. Just follow the instruction manual and you should have no problems installing it. It comes with three brackets to hold the light; each bracket is held by a screw. Now, these screws are long enough that if you screw them all the way so the brackets sit flat against the cabinet shelf, they will pop out on the other side of the shelf. But if you let them a bit loose then brackets don’t sit flat underneath the cabinet. Screws should’ve been sized keeping the industry standard of cabinet shelf thickness. That was a disappointment for me since all 3 screws popped out of the other side of my 0.75” thick shelf. For the record, I followed the instructions very carefully and did not do anything that manual did not say. Screw size is just too long. It comes with a 5 feet long power cord with an additional 2 feet long extension cord. Also provided are the adhesive tapes with attached loops to hold the cable. The attached power button works as a three step dimmer. Press 1st time and it gives you 100% output, press 2nd time and output goes down to 50%, press 3rd time and output goes down to 25% and 4th time it will turn off. The most valuable feature of this light is that it consumes only 7 watts. For each watt consumed, it produces 41 lumens. Overall output of this light is 290 lumens with color rendering index being 82. It definitely brings down your carbon foot print along with your electric bill. It produces uniform non-glare white light. I like it; it’s a great product that needs to be shipped with appropriate sized screws.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very bright and flat I have a counter with low cabinets. Even in day time, it seems dark on the counter. I wanted a light under the cabinet, and I thought this light was perfect, because it's so flat. It's unobtrusive, but provides exactly the amount of light I wanted and its dimmable in 3 steps. I got a little confused at first about how to turn it on and off - it's touch sensitive, which is a nice feature if you know about it ;-) I'm quite pleased with the lamp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Touch on, touch off It took me 20 minutes to install this under-cabinet light. The only potentially troublesome part is the three mounting clips have to line up. A paper template is provided showing where to drill the screw holes, making this task simple. There are three parts to the light - the power brick that plugs directly into an outlet (and does not block the adjacent outlet), a square dimmer switch, and the light itself. The light is turned on and off by touching the end of the light where the wire connects - a simple brush of the hand is sufficient. (I've always thought that undercabinet lights should be motion activated, but touch-activation is the next best thing). The dimmer switch has 3 brightness levels. I like the highest brightness and doubt that I'll ever use the other levels. The light is very even and bright enough to illuminate the work area without any glare. All the mounting hardware is included including stick-on cord clips and an adhesive square for mounting the dimmer switch if you don't want to use the included screws. The cord between the power block and dimmer switch is short - less than a foot, while the cord from the dimmer to the light is much longer. I didn't unwrap it but it's probably 3'.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely bright and low profile The light this provides is perfect for under cabinet, I wouldn't want to have it directly in view, but under a cabinet it's perfect. Very bright. It's about 1/3" thick so it won't stick out under most cabinets. The touch tap switch on both the wire and the light itself is convenient. The power is supplied by what appears to be a micro-usb port, and the light has plugs on both ends of the fixture, allowing you to daisy chain lights. Installation with the included brackets is easy and stable. It included a hefty multi-language manual but I couldn't tell you what it says. The light itself is uniform and well diffused, the surface of the light is micro-etched for a frosted appearance, and felt sold (doesn't look like it'd be effected by scratches nor break from typical accidental collisions that'd occur). I'm using it to light my workbench and I'm not afraid of breaking it like I was with my tube lighting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent under counter light I've had this unit six months and now can't imagine living without it. While it has a couple of tiny flaws, the overall quality is outstanding. For one, I know many folks are concerned about the "color" of light. That is, being used to the old incandescent bulbs so many of us grew up with, we often don't care for CFL nor LED light colors. If you prefer the old style incandescent light, this is a great choice. Better than the fluorescent tube under counter lights that were so common before. It appears they put some work into matching the "warm" color of the old incandescent bulb. The light doesn't look LED to me. I can't tell the difference between it and an old style bulb. The unit is slim. As in thinner than my cell phone. But the light production is quite good. I have one of those "bar" style counters between kitchen and living room and this little light has become a mainstay for evening lighting when watching TV. The light is sufficient for getting up and going to the kitchen for something but not glaring so as to be a problem watching a show on the TV (which actually faces the counter where the light is installed so a glaring light would be a problem). I couldn't resist (carefully) opening the unit up out of curiosity. There's just a small strip of LEDs inside. So they did a good job in diffusing the light of the LEDs. The entire panel lights up quit evenly. I can see one slightly darker spot if I stick my head under the the cabinet and look up at the light but who does that eh? I definitely want to pick up a second one. These lights come with a small cable to allow you to "chain" them together. Given the length of that bar style counter, I need one more to fully illuminate the entire length. Though the one does a good job already, an additional one would be ideal. Installation is not at all difficult though you'll need to do some planning before starting. One thing to consider is the unit is powered by a wall adapter ("wall wart") that plugs into a power outlet. The cable is white and not terribly difficult to hide but you're going to want to consider how you want to run the cable to the light before actually putting the light in. Another thing to watch is the unit has a button switch in the power cable that dims the light. The light has three levels and each push of the button changes the light level. You'll want to consider where you want to locate that button before installing. One of the odd and potentially confusing things they did with this unit is that the "dimmer" button--which is separate from the on/off control on the unit itself--also can turn the light off. Not just set the light level. The on/off switch is a "touch" control. Not a button. You tap one end of the light to switch it on or off. This is fine except that having two off controls can be little confusing. That is, if you turned the light off with the dimmer button then, later, try turning it on by tapping the touch control, nothing happens. I thought the light had broken and was about to pull everything back out when it dawned on me to try the dimmer button. The light came on. I'm not sure I understand what they were attempting to do here. Even after having the unit for months, I still sometimes catch myself having to try combinations of pushing the dimmer button and tapping the touch control to get the light to turn on. I try to remember to not turn the light off using the dimmer button but when I'm going to bed, I'm prone to reaching for which ever control is closest. Before installing the light, also take a good look at the location of the touch on/off switch. It's located only on one end of the light. And it is the end the power cord must be plugged in to. There are small outlets on either end of the unit but one is for the power, the other is for connecting another light and they are not interchangeable. Of course, as mentioned, the dimmer button can also be used to turn the light off (perhaps that's their point?) so if you just cannot make the install work so the touch switch is easily reached, you can, instead, place the dimmer button as the main switch. Since the dimmer button is on the power cable, you have more latitude in choosing a location. A paper "guide" is included for drilling the screw holes for the two plastic mounting brackets. You'll want to use it. I outsmarted myself thinking I didn't need to bother and had to redo things. One reason for all this planning ahead is that though the mounting clips are plastic, they hold the light quite well. It's actually difficult to take the light back down. It's easy to snap it into the mount clips but not so easy to take it back out. They hold it well. It's not likely to slip. If you do have to take the light out, be gentle. The clips hold tightly and well but they are plastic. I didn't break mine when I had to take my light down (to reverse it's orientation, I put it in with the power plug facing the wrong way) but they don't "let go" easily. Overall, though there are a few oddities (such as two "off" switches) and I can see a tiny handful of "I wish they would..." changes, I like this product a great deal. It's well done. The light is "warm". The low level setting is a nice "TV time" light. The unit is very slim and will fit well in places the older style under counter lights would not. And being an LED unit, it uses much less power than incandescent and even CFLs. I plan on buying more definitely. Especially for over my microwave where there's next to no clearance between the microwave and the cabinet. This slim light will fit in with ease.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it! Best Under-counter light I've ever seen. This is really a cool light. It is feature rich, easy to install, well built, has a nice color of light and on its brightest setting puts out plenty of light. I could not detect any flickering on any dimmer settings. You can daisy-chain up to three light panels total off of one power supply. Each light panel has thier own separate on/off, touch-sensitive power switch, independent of each other, as well as there being a separate master dimmer/on/off switch that controls the the whole panel series. With the Master switch you can control the brightness and on/off setting of the panel(s) series, whether they are on or not. With the Master switch on, at any level, you can turn any panel in the series on or off separately. The instructions are the best I've ever seen. A full-sized mounting template is included, along with all the required hardware for mounting and operating the light and the dimmer/master switch. The dimmer/master switch can be mounted in a more convenient location, though if I have one complaint, it is that the wiring limits you to within about 9" of the outlet that you plug the power adapter into. I'm sure that a competant electrician can remedy that easily enough. With the exception of the light panel's lens, the panel is made from metal, with a durable enamel paint. Too bad this can't take high heat, or I would put it under my range hood. :-) I rated the value at "Excellent", but I can't really say for sure, since I don't know how much it cost. But I do know that I would LIke more of them. Besides kitchens, they would be great in pantries, laundry rooms, under bookshelves, for accent lighting and more. My Kill-a-watt measures it at 8 watts on maximum brightness.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dead On Arrival After following the included directions, the light would not turn on. There is a dimmer switch on the cord, and a touch on/off switch on the light fixture. After plugging in the light, you are supposed to press the light dimmer switch first, then touch the on/off switch on the fixture. There was no response. I disassembled the fixture, looking for a broken wire or something obvious, then reassembled the unit after finding no obvious problem. The light would then turn on if I plugged it in, but there was no dimming action, nor would the on/off switch respond. I surmise that the problem lay in either the circuit board or in the dimmer switch. This one got by quality control, apparently.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet This light is very cool. Slim design hides under your cabinet very well. Touch on, dimmer and ability to connect multiple units together via a cord that looks like a cell phone charger all contribute to this very well designed light. Super easy to install. I got tripped up with the touch and dimmer combination and thought the light was not working but once I realized that silly mistake all is well. There are so many creative uses other than under cabinet lighting that would be great for this slim light - shelf up lighting, TV cabinet etc.
