Customer Reviews

46.25 in. x 21 in. Large Hopper Ranch Vinyl Window - White is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Low cost, low quality, usable with a lot of fussing! You get what you pay for. If you are looking for a low cost window for a shed, garage, or utility building this is a product to consider. I purchased three of these for a garage remodel to replace windows that were mismatched and inappropriate for the mid-century style of the structure. They arrived quickly, standard free shipping had them on my doorstep in 48 hours! Unfortunately they were not packaged properly--shipped rolled in a multiple layers of bubble wrap and then slid into a standard cardboard shipping box. Each window was shipped in its own box and each window had substantial damage at the corners of the nail fins--cracked and broken on at least two different corners on each window. The shipping boxes looked to have been dropped on corresponding corners to the damage so I would assume that the damage did come from shipping and wasn't pre-existing damage before shipping. The installation For these windows was into newly framed rough openings. I had to wait for the order to arrive to frame the openings because installation and spec. PDFs are dead links on the HD website and weren't available on TAFCO's site either. The nail fins are very narrow so the rough opening has to be framed only about 1/2 inch larger than the sashes in both width and height which doesn't allow for much shimming and adjustment at installation. Care must be taken in keeping the sides straight when nailing in the fins as the frame is extremely prone to sagging without shims in place to hold things straight. I snuck some shims in around the perimeter to hold things straight while nailing and I still had to be careful to drive the nails completely straight or the frame had a tendency to bow. The overall quality of the hardware that operates the window is marginal. The two latches are vinyl or plastic and lock into a continuous grove along the top sash, not an overly secure reinforced receptacle. The two operators that act as articulating hinges have no friction and so the window is either closed or completely (nearly 90 degrees) open. Any attempt to place the window in any other position results in the window falling into the full open position. I found that you can remove the operators and tweak the stainless steel slides in a vice to tighten up the operators so that the window opens and closes with more friction and allows for positions other than full open. Two of the three windows I received had runs or large imperfections in the screens (shifted strands about 2"x2" in size that were very obvious). The screening is also not installed tightly in the spline groove and sags from the screen frame. The screen frame is a standard aluminum frame with a spline groove but I will be replacing the screen to improve the appearance, not something I would expect to do on a brand new window.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Two of the windows we bought can't be tightened to make them adjustable. We bought three of these windows, and two of them can't be tightened to make it so we can adjust them to the level of opening that we want. Very disappointed about that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great window for the price and application I used these windows to provide ventilation under a double wide mobile home. They worked great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Vinyl /Plastic All is good. I'm still working on rigging a way to hold it in desired position. It wants to be locked or it is wide open.
