Replacing my existing lighting with these retrofit lights was simple... unscrew the old bulb, remove the spring clips holding the existing deflector/ring, screw in the LED adapter, bend the new spring clips into place, and push into the opening.
The light is instantly on... bright... an instant upgrade to the kitchen and hallway lights that they replace. Plus, the long-life of the bulbs means I won't have to get on a ladder again for a long time to replace them. These LED's aren't a compromise in light quality either, unlike some of the first generation LED bulbs. My brother and father both used these in their own homes and had excellent results as well.

These lights were just as advertised. They were easy to install and look nice, now I just have to figure out what to do with my old bulbs and covers. The payback period for me is ~3 years but my main driver was reduced summer heat (will actually be detrimental in the winter), not having to deal with burn outs and avoiding the horrible color/warm up issues of CFLs. Did all 11 in about 20 minutes. The only down side I see is that these things can not be painted to match the ceiling like my old metal covers. These lights dim well and are actually brighter than the incadencants they replaced.

These lights are just perfect, and so easy to install. You will spend more time dealing with the cardboard packaging than you will installing the lights. They are stylishly flush with the ceiling, and give off a very neutral tone .. more daylight than incandescent, and very bright. They are also dimmable, which is great, but even more great is that they do not hum, like so many other options I have tried. I was ready to replace my dimmer switches, but now, with these lights, I do not have to. The level of dimness you can achieve seems to vary with how many lights are on one switch, which is weird, but ultimately I am very pleased with this purchase.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by pandabair Cost effective LED retrofit
The LED retrofits lights work well, are easy to install and dim better than other models I have used. Even though they dim well, they will not dim down as much as an incandescent bulb. All other LED retrofits I have used have some kind of gasket that gives a tighter seal between the ceiling (esp if the ceiling is textured) and the flange of the fixture. These TCP fixtures do not have a gasket, just the plastic flange. I made my own gaskets out of some 3/32 inch craft foam (Wal Mart) to help provide a more air tight seal. However, I purchased the fixtures on sale at Home Depot for less than $15 each, which is a very good price.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Guttermouth Great upgrade to the kitchen and huge differance in lighting
These are not cheap even if you get them on sale like I did but still worth the money. They are so much brighter I bought a dimmer and never installed it as i just got used to my kitchen being much brighter.
Doesn't look like I can change the LED or a bulb in them and will need to replace the whole unit when it goes out althought they are supposed to last much longer. I'm just hoping I can buy more when they start to fail as I plan to live in this house for many many years to come. Only reason I marked the value good instead of excellant is because the cost when they are not on sale is a bit high.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Car Great update for tired can lights.
Easy to install - just screw in like a light bulb. The LED lights are much brighter than the 40Ws that were in the fixtures - so we did add a dimmer switch. The light color is very close to natural light. The hardest part of the job was flattening the boxes for recycle!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by energyefficientgal very good to replace standard can lights
IF you have standard cylindrical cans, these are terrific and SO easy to install. My problem was our cans were more 'beer bottle' in shape with a severely tapered top. The springs wouldn't fit in properly, they slid down. The electrical associate at Home Depot gave me a logical fix but that didn't work either. My handyman came up with another fix and removed the springs, added heavy duty mounting tape all around the rim of the new cans. So far it's working just fine. .
I will be installing dimmers though because while the quality of light is terrific, they're brighter than my old cans.

Unfortunately the TCP retrofit LED kit is a poor design. The arms that are spring loaded and meant to hold fixture tight to ceiling does not work at all. Every fixture I put up would slip down and leave a quarter of an inch gap between trim ring and ceiling and the look was completely unacceptable. I tried double backed tape on the arms themselves as well as puting the tape on the trim ring to hold it to the ceiling, did not work because trim ring is concave at the edge and not enough surface on the trim ring for the tape to hold. I ended up calking the trim ring and taping the fixtures to the ceiling with Blue painters tape and waiting a week before taking off the tape to make the the caulking cured to the ceiling
