Does this bulb work on dimmers?

The bulbs in question are the TCP 65W EQUIVALENT SOFT WHITE (2700K) BR30 LED FLOOD LIGHT BULB (6-PACK). Looking to purchase around 60 bulbs and need to know if the bulb will work on dimmer switches? Thank you, Chad

Can I use these bulbs outside in a covered area?

Asked by: Korbel
I have used these successfully in semi-covered flood light fixtures in mild climate San Diego. I do not know how they would fare in harsher weather. They do seem to be completely sealed.

Customer Reviews

65W Equivalent Soft White (2700K) BR30 Non-dimmable LED Flood Light Bulb (6-Pack) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 78.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nov 2015 review of TCP Non Dimmable BR30 2700k LED Every year I try all the BR30 LED bulbs to see how they stack up. This year I tested the CREE, Philips warm glow, Sylvania, and TCP. The first three are dimmable, the TCP supposedly is not (but it actually seems to dim ok). The Cree (last year's top pick) was a disappointment, as it wasn't instant on. The Sylvania also has a slight delay but was tolerable, and had good light output. The Philips was great, especially the dimming warm glow feature which makes it pretty much indistinguishable from a incandescent bulb and if you want that feature, get the philips. The TCP bulb is actually the least expensive of the 4 but I had to special order it at home depot online (you can also get it on amazon). The TCP seems to put out more light than the cree or philips even though all are rated at 650 lumens, and the light is slightly whiter (I'm guessing about 2800-2900k) which I think is better than the 2700k for bathrooms, offices, and kitchens. In this year's batch, especially for value, the TCP is the clear winner. They have come along way, as last year Philips was the clear winner. Also since last year, the prices of all the big brands have dropped 50%.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Look and fit very similar to existing incandescent bulbs. LED bulbs are taking over. And screw-in bulbs are easy to install and use. These particular bulbs have a nice shape to them that make them easier to retrofit into older existing fixtures. I used these on some rooms that had adjustable overhead cans with eyeball directional covers. They were used to highlight a fireplace or mantel or wall bookshelf. The existing bulbs were 65W incandescent. I replaced them with these LED bulbs. The fit was good. From the outside, they look very similar to the bulbs that were replaced. The real test was the light color. These have a 2700K index which is good for indoor use. Don't go above 3000K for indoor use. The color was very similar but not exact to the incandescents they replaced. The light distribution was a little bit different. My old bulbs were more of a Spot-style because of the application (highlighting a room feature). These are more of a flood-style so the light spreads out more. You will notice the minor difference in the photos. Even my spouse likes them (and usually is not into these types of changes). Overall a good retrofit for similar incandescent bulbs. These are not dimmable, but I don't use dimmers anyway. And with the power consumption so low, I like to leave them on a lot more now. Dimming seems unnecessary.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great replacement and works with my motion sensors Disclaimer - it says on the box these are not meant for use with photo controls electric timers or dimmers. Not sure if that means motion sensors but they work with my indoor room sensor. I did have a different LED that would not shut off using this same sensor. I was told the sensor is probably leaking electricity and since LED's use so little it was enough for the light to be visible. The color matches the old incandescents very well. It is great to have instant full brightness. I didn't really notice how bad the CFL's were until I added a couple of these. At only 8.5 watts per bulb it is worth the cost especially if you want instant brightness and have hard to reach lights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Economical long lasting LED Bulbs - good quality light These LED bulbs are direct replacements for 65 Watt floods, or 15-20 Watt compact florescent floods. They burn much cooler than any other bulb type. The warm light versions that these are produce good quality light basically the same as cool white incandescent bulbs. They are as bright as a standard bulb. Instant on - no warm up period like compact florescents. Very long lasting, so ideal for hard to reach locations. The bulbs use very little energy, around 10 watts per bulb. These are non dimmable - but the 6 pack pricing is very good, and the per bulb price is certainly a great value given the typical cost of LED bulbs. Suitable for damp locations also.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than CFL bulb Good price, nice illumination. The Soft White color is just right. (I have used the "Daylight" LED bulbs which remind me of the light from an electric welder, but the light from these is similar to the light from incandescent bulbs.) I hope at this price, that these spell the demise of compact fluorescent bulbs. They come on at full illumination instantly and make even less heat than CFLs. As a bonus, they are safer in that they use so little current that they are less likely to overload a circuit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally! An affordable, high-quality LED reflector. I jumped on the special 6-pack pricing because of my outstanding experiences with TCP CFLs. Some of our PAR38 and R40 units have been burning for over 7 years, while their rated life would have suggested a bit less than 3 years. CFLs do get much dimmer by that age, of course. These R30 LED units are elegantly designed and beautifully packaged in a sturdy reclosable box, with the bulbs nestled in a custom plastic tray. I would be happy to receive it as a gift; it is that impressive. The light quality produced by the bulbs far exceeds the mishmash of bulbs being replaced in this application and is very uniform from bulb to bulb. These (25) bulbs will be burning 24/7 so they will save around $90 a month electric in just this application. The only downside is that I had to adjust most of the recessed fixtures to keep the face of the new R30 "inside" the can; some people found it glaring from a side view.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from replacing all my floods with this one A bit brighter than the 65 watt incandescents I am replacing with the same color quality. The best part is I can get rid of the fluorescents that took forever to warm up to full brightness. No heat so the room doesn't get too hot. 5 of these on at once use less wattage than 1 incandescent. I initially ordered 12 but am ordering 12 more before the price goes back up. Finally you don't have to yell at the kids for leaving all the lights on in the house.
