Customer Questions & Answers

Are these immediate on lights?

I have used LED lighting before, and just like a CF bulb, they hesitated when the switch is first turned on, unlike a standard incandescent.

What is the approx dimming range on these?

Asked by: RJ
RJ, These are rated to dim down to 10% but please make sure you are using a LED dimmer as this will affect how well the bulbs dim.

How do I get these to snug to the old rims when installing into one piece 6" cans?

I've purchased these for my entire home and while they're very easy to screw in and attach the connector AND the light is terrific, the springs are sliding in my one piece 6" cans and not fitting snug against the rim. They look like they're 'popping' out. I've tried applying one layer of double sticky tape pads, but that didn't work. I also tried bending the spring wires but I didn't get that correct either. One previous gentlemen who reviewed them had the same problem and said he was returning them. I really don't want to return them.
Asked by: energyefficientgal
Hey energyefficientgal, I'd recommend to see if the inside of the housing where the socket goes. First, turn off the power to the lights so you are working safely. It should be attached (the socket) to a flat, thin plate held into place via a wing nut. Take out this entire plate and take out the socket. The socket is still wired in, so don't remove or mess with those wires. The socket should be loose, which now should allow the new retrofit LED lights to fit more snug into the recessed housing. If this doesn't have this, or a similar plate that can't be removed, you may unfortunately have to return the fixtures. Joseph

65W Equivalent Soft White BR30 Dimmable Retrofit LED Downlight (2-Pack) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent and run cool Got these at major savings to others at Home Depot as part of a daily deal on their email list. They run cool as in not hot in temperature. There are others LED kits that create a lot more heat so longevity might be reduced with the extra heat for the power supply. These TCP units run cool so heat should not be a factor in the power supply electronics failing due to heat. The light is warm white and pleasant. It is produced by 12 LEDs surface mounted on a tiny white printed circuit below the plastic diffuser plastic lens. I uploaded a photo of the LEDs. This is a good deal. Two TCP brand conversion kits are in each box. Four boxes (8 kits) to a case.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value, good quality, just ok torsion springs I got 5 sets of these (10 total) when they were on the daily deal sale. Takes about 3 minutes to install. Light is very warm, just like our incandescent bulbs. I have it hooked up to a Lutron dimmer and it works great. Compared to other retrofits, these are not too deep. It doesn't matter to me but I thought I'd just bring that up. My only issue with these is that the torsion springs don't seem to work as well as the ones found on the Ecosmart Cree retrofits. The Ecosmart has a much better design and it seems like they would stay in the cans much longer. With these TCPs, I bet with just a tiny earthquake here in Cali, these would probably fall out of place by a little. There were times when I had to keep pushing them towards the ceiling just so they would stay and find the right spot. I just feel that the design of the torsion springs just don't seem to be the best out there. I never had that problem with the Ecosmarts but then again, they're twice the price. For the price, they're a great value. Hope this helps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW! I'm an electrician and I bought 20 of these 2-packs when they were on sale for my own home. I replaced twelve CFL recessed lights (65w equivalent) in my kitchen with these LED retrofits. You don't have to be an electrician - it is so easy even a caveman could do it. Just make sure the power is off and you're good to go. I turned the lights on and I said WOW! I looked at my wife and she said WOW! These LEDs put out at least 25% more light than the CFLs did. It took the CFLs about a minute to warm up to their full output. These LEDs are instant. The color is GREAT. I thought 2700K might be a bit too warm but these seem to be closer to about 3000K, which is a great color for home lighting. They use half the energy of the CFLs and 80% less than the incandescent lights I replaced elsewhere in my home and you can use them with a dimmer. These retrofits are made for both 5 inch or 6 inch recessed housings. You may have to tap on the trims a little to get them tight to the ceiling with 6 inch housings because the spring clips are a little closer together so they will also work with the 5 inch housing, but most of my housings are 6 inch Halo or Commercial Electric and they fit fine. I could not use them on two older 6 inch housings that were of a different make. The brackets in those housings for the spring clips were too far apart and the retrofit trim would not completely cover the opening in the ceiling. These retrofit LEDs are aslo rated for damp locations. Even on sale they were a bit pricey but will definitely pay for themselves in energy savings. It's too early to tell if they will last the rated 35,000 hrs, but If they last half that long they are a bargain.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bummed Out I was excited to see these retrofits on a daily special so I quickly ordered 3 sets as a starter. I have been searching for retrofits for our home since it has 16 recessed lights.. I liked the fact that they were 65W equivalent. I installed two in our kitchen which has 5 total and the lights were very bright., but the biggest problem I had was with the torsion springs and my cans. Those two were not very compatible as I could not get a snug fit to our ceiling. I tried several adjustments, but coupled with the fact that I would have to dim them all of the time, i re-installed the original fixtures and bulbs. I will be returning all of them to Home Depot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! This product was easy to install. The instant on feature versus CFL's is great and the light output is good as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product at a great price. I bought a boatload of these LED retrofit can lights for the house after the trim rings on the old ones turned yellow and the bulbs kept burning out. I like the way the manufacturer has made the trim in such a way as to create a shadow line that mimics the look of a standard flood. That makes it easy to replace specific fixtures without doing the whole house at once. Really easy to install, too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! You cannot beat the quality of this product for the price offered. I installed these lights on a dimmer switch and they work perfectly. Almost every light in my new house is one of these. Nothing but glowing discs of light at any level.
