Can these be installed vertically ? On my home radiant floor system, all 5 zones have these exact valves installed vertically, with the arrow pointing down on the return side of the loops where they join the main return line.

As the expression goes in medicine, "Do no harm". With that in mind I assume you are asking this question because you are having a problem. Mono flow, or, Scoop Tee's or Ventury Tee's are old technology dating back to when plumbing was an art. As such they need to be used in at thoughtful manner or they can have unintended and counter intuitive consequences. Much of this knowledge has been lost to time. So i don;t want to give you a quick answer that causes you to do some plumbing work and still not solve your issue. Once you add radiant to that you add another level of complexity. You are welcome so give me a call. That way I can get a better handle on the situation and give you better advise. As to your question. Yes they can be installed vertically. As the arrows that all depends on if you are using one on either end of the sub loop or only one on the down stream side. Chris 978 651 3301

SHOULD SCREW CONTROL ON NORNAL OPERATION BE SCREWED IN OR OUT

SHOULD SCREW CONTROL ON NORNAL OPERATION BE SCREWED IN OR OUT
Asked by: BILLY
Screwed in is normal operation. The flow check is there to prevent heat from migrating through the system when there is no call for heat. When there is a call for heat the circulator easily pulls it open. You would unscrew it in two situations. If it got stuck closed due to sitting all summer or if the circulator was broken and you wanted to let hot water migrate through the system so there was a least some heat until it could be replaced. Do they sell a repait kit for this check valve instead of having to replace it?

Asked by: Dennis
The simple answer is no. However assuming your flow check is the same make and model you can often change the guts from a new one and put it in and old one. Thus you are changing everything except the installed casting. But experience tells me you may not have a flow check problem and that we should talk. Often times logic when trouble shooting a system leads you back to the flow check, The logic is correct but often times that is not the source problem but a phantom symptom. For example the house I grew up in. My room would get heat all year even though the thermostat was not on. I assumed the flow check was stuck open or broken. When I changed them the problem continued. In the end the pumps and piping design was such that the flow checks lifted when the zone making hot water ran all summer. So I had to install zone valves as positive stops because no mater what I did to the flow checks I got flow through that zone all the time. I hope this helps. Feel free to give me a call and we can talk about you specific issue. Chris 978 651 3301
