A hammer drill is required to drill the pilot hole. Should I use the hammer drill to screw the screw or can I use a regular drill with torque settings? Thanks
Asked by: mark
Hi Mark, You can use either the hammer drill or a regular drill with torque settings. Just make sure you switch to the screw mode if you are using the hammer drill. Please contact our customer service at (877)489-2726, Monday-Friday from 7am-5pm CST if you have additional questions.

What is the maximum torque I can put on these screws and does it take a lot of force to drill them? I don't want to break them. Thanks
Asked by: mark
Hi Mark, The 1/4" Tapcon screw anchors can withstand approximately 11 foot-lbs of torque before failing. If you use the correct drill bit size (3/16" dia. Tapcon drill bit), drill 1/4" deeper than your embedment, and clean out the hole; you should not have any issues. We also sell the Tapcon Pro installation kit which has a de-clutching nut driver to ensure you do not over-torque the screw. Our customer service team can help you out with your installation if needed. Please give them a call at (877)489-2726, Monday-Friday from 7am-5pm CST.

50" TV Mount in Stucco

I want to mount a tv on a heavy pull out swivel mount to my stucco wall outside. Will these do the trick for the weight load just in the stucco? I was looking at the 1/4" x 1/3/4" since they stucco is about 1" thick, I believe. Pretty sure it's wood framing behind the stucco. Typical newer home construction. Or do I want to try and find the studs behind the stucco and will these anchors go into wood as well, then get the longer screws? thanks
Asked by: Brando
Hi Brando, stucco is so brittle, you really want to try and find a stud. Figure out what size screw you need for wood mount. you could use stainless steel 1/4 X 3 to 4 inch lag bolts. These provide good strength and is great for outdoors. I would not recommend mounting into stucco.

Customer Reviews

1/4 in. x 1-3/4 in. Hex-Washer-Head Concrete Anchors (75-Pack) is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from when used right I am a professed do it myself person, except when it comes to older Plumbing. Read a lot of the product "fail" reviews. Having concrete and block wall on and around property have used this product a lot. The most important thing I've learned is to vacuum or clean out the hole drilled for the fastener if your not sure all the material was removed when drilling. especially true when applying to damp concrete. When i first used this fastener years ago, I attributed all but just a couple "twist-offs" to leaving material in hole I drilled. Use a can of compressed air nowadays when installing in concrete. Real handy!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Every one broke These are junk. I was using to anchor a toilet flange to a concrete slab. I pre drilled the holes with the recomended bit, to slightly beyond the depth of the full length of the screw. I then followed the directions and used a hammer drill to install the screws. No matter how slow, or how gentle the touch on the trigger, the screws all broke (6 to be precise). I then used a short handled socket wrench, achieving the same result with 4 more. I'm no stranger to the dangers of over torquing a bolt or screw, and these all snapped when they should not have. Now, adding more time to my project, and if i cant find a better solution, potentially costing me a lot more money than these fasteners retail for. Very disappointed. I wont be buying them ever again, and hopefully Home Depot takes them back on return.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Anchors I just installed 150 of the 1/4 by 3-3/4 inch anchors in a concrete foundation wall. I snapped a grand total of zero. If you are snapping them off, you are doing something wrong.
