How large is the Hex Head?

What kind of bit do I need to use with the power drill to insert screw? Also, are these screws good to install kitchen cupboards?
Asked by: JaaTee
Use a 3/16 in. Tapcon drill bit to install a 1/4 in. Tapcon anchor. Make sure the anchor is long enough to allow an embedment depth of 1-3/4 in. Tapcon anchors are designed for fastening applications in concrete, block, or brick. If you are not installing the cupboards in concrete, block, or brick, we do not recommend using Tapcon anchors.

1/4 in. x 2-1/4 in. Hex-Washer-Head Concrete Anchors (75-Pack) is rated 2.9 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Drill bit broke right away I bought this pack today to mount my hose reel onto brick siding. I had to drill 3 Pilot holes before putting in the screws. The carbide tip of the drill bit came off completely on the third hole and is now wedged in the hole. Now I have to go buy another bit and make 3 new holes since only 2 out of 3 are now useable. I won't be using this brand again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome for work in my basement I was building some partition walls in my basement and used these to anchor the base of the walls to the concrete slab. I only used 1 between every other stud and could not even make the wall wiggle in the slightest after I was done. I also like the fact that if I change my mind in a few years I can just unscrew them instead of having to splinter the wood like a with a powder actuated fastner.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of Money and Time I thought this product would be a great solution for installing my porch post into my cement porch. Unfortunately, 5 out of the 6 screws snapped off about halfway into the holes. These may work if you have a power drill and drive them into the cement fast. I was able, because of the angle, to screw one almost all the way into the hole. The remaining five, I had to stop about half way through, about 1 inch and finish with a ratchet. Each promptly snapped off. Perhaps they need to be screwed in continuously to minimize torque on the screw. But in my case, worthless. Very disappointing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Blocks and bricks only !!! product works great in block or brick ! do not waste your time if your trying to install in concrete mix that included stone, product will break !
Date published: 2013-06-12
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Anchors I just installed 150 of the 1/4 by 3-3/4 inch anchors in a concrete foundation wall. I snapped a grand total of zero. If you are snapping them off, you are doing something wrong.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage Maybe 1 out of every 5 actually bite into concrete. Others strip the concrete causing you to drill another hole or the screws actually snap in two. The drill bits also only last 10-15 holes before they're dull.
