Customer Questions & Answers

Fastening 2x4 to cement floor will these work.

I am adding a small back room and would like to fasten a wall to the cement floor, using treated lumber due to being outdoors. There is a roof and it will be sealed and painted later, any suggestions if these would work, or what should I use. Thanks.

I have to reinstall shutters that were originally installed with those weak vinyl shutter-loks and would like to replace them with Tapcons. They were anchored in concrete with holes large enough for the weak vinyl spikes. Should I purchase the 1/4 in. or the 3/16 in. Tapcon anchors to use in those existing holes?
Asked by: DexX
Dear DexX, All Tapcons require the drill bit diameter to be smaller than the Tapcon anchor so the threads can engage in the concrete(ex: 1/4" Tapcon would require a 3/16" drill bit). If the drill bit used for the vinyl spikes were 5/32", going up a size in the drill bit so there is a freshly drilled hole for the Tapcon threads to engage; this would be a 3/16" drill bit and a 1/4" Tapcon. If a 3/16" drill bit was used for the vinyl spikes, we recommend going up to a 1/4" drill bit and a 5/16" Tapcon. If you have additional questions, please contact our customer service at (877)489-2726, they are available Monday-Friday from 7:00am - 5:00pm central time.

They are definitely a finicky product but seem to be the easiest way to anchor something to concrete. Key things are to make sure you follow all the instructions, particularly the step on cleaning out the hole before screwing in. I was able to use compressed air, but if you don't clean out the hole, too much concrete dust gets stuck in there and prevents you from getting the anchor in correctly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Product Great product overall. Works as described in the product literature. However, the exposed heads already show signs of rust.
