Customer Questions & Answers

Hello, can this adhesive be used on engineered flooring?

Asked by: Becky
Absolutely. By the way, for any product of this type, I always recommend you go to the manufacturer's web site and read their data sheet for specifics about substraits, limitations and other important things to know. Sometimes Home Depot (and other sites) will have a .pdf link to provide this info.

Is concrete one of the "approved substrates" mentioned in the Tayor MS product description?

Since this is an online order product we want to order this for our remodeling project only if it is approved for putting wood flooring on a concrete foundation.
Asked by: DIYer
You should go to the manufacturer's web site and review the data sheet. When that info doesn't answer a question, call them and speak with a technical rep. This is the best way to get the straight scoop.

Can this be used to secure wood flooring to a painted concrete slab?

Asked by: eaglewings83
I think you will have to rough the surface to get adhesion to the slab.

Can I use this adhesive over years old mastic or will I have to sand off the mastic? The concrete is dry

And in excellent condition. The tile was removed at least 20 years ago and replaced with carpet. I am hoping oi can go right over the mastic with your adhesive followed by engineered hardwood.
Asked by: KStoy
I would remove the mastic. I used a tool fro HD to remove the tile and mastic from the master bedroom before putting down engineered wood flooring

This adhesive is much easier to work with than the adhesive that home depot carries in stock. Trowels out easier and isn't near as sticky as the stock adhesive. when it dries it is just like rubber and easy to clean. The only down side is if you are going to take a break or stop for awhile be sure to put the plastic cover that comes with it back in and push it down all the way, the glue will start to set up after a bit if it is left exposed, just putting the lid back on isn't enough. This is the only l reason I didn't give it 5 stars. Overall I would highly recommend this over the other stock brand,. Had to order it and took a week to get but well worth it compared to working with the stock brand. I have put down about 800 sq feet of flooring over the last couple of years and won't use anything else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Adhesive This adhesive is amazing. I used it for a hardwood install on a subfloor. It was so easy to use and pretty easy clean up. And does it hold - make sure you are ready! I had one board slighlty off of its tongue and groove and it was hard to pick back up but I did it with a little elbow grease. The floor looks great and I am very pleased with the product. I wish it was sold in 5 gal instead of 4 gal because I did need 5gal but it's ok.

I always do my research and listen to the experience of others. I found this product through others comments and it delivered exactly as expected. All floor adhesives can be messy so have some clean up material and an extra pair of hands when you do your project. The product itself was very easy to clean up when I got some on the bamboo floor or the tools. It held from the moment I put the flooring into it and I was very impressed with how easy it was to work with. I spent a lot of time looking for the suggested trowel...this product actually contained a blade in it, that I was able to slide onto a 12" joint/taping knife, and worked perfectly. I wish it had said the blade was included as it would have saved me some time running around. A+ product. I highly recommend. I have heard horror storied of other product seeping back up through the wood...that will not happen with this product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Probably works ok, but I prefer Uzin Taylor MS Plus seems to work ok, but I have some reservations. First, I should note that while I have installed many hardwood floors, the plank floor I'm currently working on is my first time using this product, so my experience with it is limited to just the past few days. But Home Depot asked, so I thought I'd provide some feedback on my impressions. This particular floor is a 4" wide hickory plank floor, with planks up to 7' long. I always glue and nail solid wood hardwood floors, and I have used Uzin adhesives on these installations for many years. My belief is that there is no better flooring adhesive than Uzin (and I really liked the older MK97 best), but it's getting to be almost $200 a pail, so I thought I'd try Taylor's MS Plus which costs a little over half that amount. The Taylor product goes on easily, and it's easy to work with as long as you keep the process going. It certainly remains flexible when cured the way it's supposed to. It adheres pretty well, but definitely not as well as Uzin. It is nowhere near as tacky going on, which could actually be a good thing since it's easier to handle, but it also comes off easier when cured. In general, it's just not as tough... it will tear or peel off without too much trouble after curing, where the Uzin adhesive takes a whole lot more effort to remove (both wet and dry). I've had the experience of having to remove a 3' long x 5" wide plank the next day that was stuck down with Uzin... the plank came up in toothpicks. It may be that MS Plus holds very well in tension as opposed to shear, but I suspect it will fail before the flooring or substrate (unlike Uzin). Taylor's less tenacious hold would concern me more if I were putting down wider planks on this job, but hopefully it's sufficient to handle any moisture-induced movement of these narrower boards. It also skins over pretty quickly, so you really need to create a good seal over leftovers in the pail at the end of the day. Simply sealing the container won't do it, although the Uzin product would also skin over, albeit more slowly since it has a longer curing time. When wrapping up for the day, I use a piece of waxed paper placed directly on top of the glue, and run a finger around the perimeter to establish a seal to the sides of the container. You can also use the inner seal that came with it, but I find that harder to work with as the pail begins to narrow. Then the container top goes on. The next day, I remove the waxed paper and place it with glue face up on a few sheets of newspaper, which allows me to scrape the glue off the waxed paper and use it. The bottom line for me is that it was an interesting experiment and it's probably ok, but I'll spend the extra money next time to get an adhesive that I have 100% confidence in.
