Customer Questions & Answers

Is the color a true fire engine red or a darker brick red. I need brick red.

Asked by: sue
The color is a very light, almost white with a mix of some pinkish coloring. I'm looking for an actual "brick red" paver sweep myself to no avail.

will the sand keep the red color, for how long?

Asked by: star201506
UltraMix Paver Joint Sand is manufactured using a proprietary color infusion process for permanent adhesion and long lasting color. In hardscape joint material applications, it is recommended for use in conjunction with NanoPave 2-in-1 Joint Stabilizer & Sealer (JSS).

How many 40 pounds ofsand will it take to cover a 12 by 12 Area 4 inches deep

Asked by: Fran
UltraMix Paver Joint Sand isn't commonly used for a stand-alone sand area. However in this scenario, considering 144 square feet at 4" depth, it would require approximately 95 50-pound bags of UltraMix Sand.

How many square feet at 1 inch will one bag cover. The Home Depot specifications say 80. Is that at 1 inch?

Asked by: Laura
The coverage for UltraMix Paver Joint Sand is dependent upon the average width and depth of the hardscape joint. The depth of a traditional paver is commonly 2-3/8". But there are other grades of pavers available like light traffic pavers (1-5/8") for residential use and heavy traffic pavers (3-1/8") that are used for driveways. 1" is not a common paver depth, which means a specialty or irregular stone is likely being used. At 1" average depth and an average joint width of 1/4", a single 50 pound bag of UltraMix Sand would cover approximately 80 - 120 ft2 of surface area.

Other products like polymers come in one color, limits the possibilities of bringing your project to the next level. I found that you have no option than to use the Nano Pave Joint and Stabilizer & Sealer because the joint sand is to light and blows away with the first strong wind.

The mix is very light (almost white) with a tinge of pink coloring. So I recommend looking at an actual sample of the product before buying.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from OK First of all the product is overpriced for what it does. it is just fine sand. However, I knew this before the purchase. The only reason I bought this is because it says it is red in color. After spreading on my pavers it mostly looks like regular sand with a very slight red tinge to it. Disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beach Sand This is nothing but a $37 Bag of Beach Sand. Followed directions to a tee. A good rain washes it all away. Do Not Waste Your Money. I should have heeded the Review before me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Restored a brick paver patio with NanoPave JSS & UltraMix Sand I had a small brick paver patio that was looking pretty bad because of moss build up and staining from oak leaves. I used a pressure washer to clean the bricks off and blow most of the old polymeric sand out of the joints. After letting it dry out for a day, I used two different colors of UltraMix Paver Joint Sand to match the interior brick paver color and the perimeter block color. One of the colors was Brick Red and the other was Charcoal Plum. I used the red exclusively in the interior area and then blended the red with the charcoal plum on the outside edges - it looks really cool! Applying NanoPave JSS was pretty straightforward, I used a 1-gallon pump sprayer but I also bought a foam rubber squeegee to even the liquid out on the surface. If you spray the JSS liquid on evenly (almost like painting with a spray can), it goes on in decent time. Some of my joints were between a 1/4" and 1/2" on average so I applied at roughly 80 square feet per gallon. It did seem like I needed to focus the spray into the joints at times too once they started to drink up the liquid. The squeegee is probably the easiest part because it helped spread the liquid evenly where I accidentally over applied. Aside from the pressure washing, the whole project took me about 4 hours and the end result looked fantastic. The gloss finish is notable, but not like a wet look, and the UltraMix Sand looks beautiful compared to the ugly grey polymeric sand I had in there before. All in all, good product and easy to use. The sand is a little expensive, but everything together was less than a dollar per square foot to do it myself.
