Like others have said, you have to push a bit to get them to drill into the metal, but they cinch down tight. I was replacing 2x4 treated rails and fastening them to square steel posts set in the ground. It was tough going until a brother-in-law suggested I might want to invest in an impact driver. Much easier due to the impact hammering action of the driver. Still have to push some. Noticed that on the wetter pieces of the treated 2x4's, it was almost like the wet wood chips were keeping the drill point of the screws from biting into the steel unless considerably more force was applied. Solved that by having a second cordless drill handy to quickly drill a pilot hole. Having the pilot hole also makes guiding the self-tapping screws easier.

Love these screws. Used them many times on different projects and will use them again and again. Got to put some weight behind them to get them to bite through so be prepared for a workout.

Great for redecking utility trailers. I just wish I would've known about this product before I spent $20 on stainless steel sheet metal screws & waisted about a 1/2 hour trying to drill one pilot hole! I was able to screw all 26 screws without drilling pilot holes and with my cordless drill.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Paul Great for applying deck to utility trailer
Used these to secure a fresh new Pressure Treated SYP deck to my 18' trailer. I had to apply a lot of force to get them to penetrate the steel framing, but they pulled the deck down nice and tight to the frame.
