I need to attach a 2x6 to a brick wall. Will this work to mount the wood to the brick wall? Do I "have" to hit mortar?

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by uncertain but give it a try I am undecided about these screw, once I was all the way in, the screw just spins and never took a solid grab. I am not sure if this is user error or product fault, not every time did this happen. HOwever, they look great, the ones that did take hold were solidly anchored and the screw material feels very strong, so i am hoping for the best June 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome for shelving Worked great for securing uprights to studs for shelving. September 6, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by To give proper support, always screw these into a stud. Try The Hillman Group Walldog 2-1/2 in. Hi-lo Steel Pan-Head Phillips Cabinet Anchors with Screws (25-Pack) for your fastening purposes. The WallDog cabinet mounting screw easily penetrates wood studs. Low profile with a large diameter wafer head style provides a finished look. July 10, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Doesn't work in plaster I did an overkill and used this to mount a small piece (12 linear ft) of 1x3 to plaster. One end was already secured into stud and I used the walldog on the other end. It just spun at the end and the 1x3 was not secured. I had to shim the plaster hole with some wood chips and then it took hold, like a normal screw. I have not tried putting this in concrete wall but may test it out on a spare CMU first.
