Answer:
The boxes at HD are not that much different than the ones at Lowe's, which do have handle knockouts. Lowe's website does not list the weight suggestion like at HD, but one of the answers in the question area states 65 lbs. HD boxes are made from 100% recycled paper so they might not be as durable as the ones at Lowe's.

The answer stating that the box would have to be redesigned is a bit puzzling to me as I have been using boxes to ship items on Ebay since 1997. All corrugated boxes are basically similar in construction. True there are some heavy duty boxes out there, which state so on the bottom with the crush and weight rating.
I rarely shop at Lowe's but always buy my boxes there due to the fact there boxes do have handle knockouts.
Sometimes I do have to put packing tape at the top of the handle knockout when I know I will be putting books or other heavy items in a box so it will not rip. This is usually not required for most items.
Maybe HD will start making some of their boxes with handle knockouts. It should just be an option die cut on the box manufacturing line of whoever they have make their boxes for them. They could sell a heavy duty moving box with handle knockouts along with their normal boxes.. JMHO. Read Less

Answer:
because the nature of cardboard does not allow for handle holes with out major design and manufacture changes, the area would need reinforcement or it tears easy = $$$$$

Answer:
I have found that unless boxes are made of reinforced cardboard, or the handle holes are specially reinforced, cutting handle holes weaken the boxes. No handle holes make the box more difficult to lift, but the box lasts longer.

Answer:
Definitely the medium box. The large and extra large were nice for lamps, but were to heavy to tote, for me. We used over 100 medium boxes, but just a few of the larger ones, for a 3/2 house. Hope this helps.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 126 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Nice thick box, horrible cardboard that tape DOES NOT STICK TO IT The box should be made in the other direction, it would be more practical, in other words too high ! The box has a nice thickness, and is very solid The finishing of the box, the grain of the cardboard makes in NON-ADHESIVE. As you'e struggling to put the tape on to close the box, the tape keeps popping out! You have to rush to put the tape, than rapidly run the tape over the previous tape to overlap all of the tapes so that being taped tape over tape then it holds........... EXTREMELY expensive on tape! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by no review The item was easy to order and store close to our warehouse, price was lower then my wholesaler for paper products. June 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great boxes They are very sturdy, & hold a lot. I have to be careful not to overpack them or I can't pick them up. Perfect size. June 7, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by tape does not stick i bought a bunch for a move, and the tape would not stay stuck to the boxes. it came undone within a few hours. (i bought good quality tape. that's not the problem here) i'm not sure what i am going to do. i've wasted a ton of time/energy and a fair bit of money getting my move together, and now i have to re-do it all. these boxes are a disappointment, and from the reviews, it seems like i'm not alone in this bad experience with the tape. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent boxes Very sturdy boxes. Great for moving and shipping. HIghly recommend. May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Yes! Buy them! I purchased small, medium, and large sizes of these boxes and couldnt be more pleased. In the past, when we moved, we used freebie boxes from grocery stores, etc-never again!! These are very sturdy, and very reasonably priced, and have made our move much easier!! May 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Storage Box - medium size Box has holes on the side and not sturdy at all; you really do get what you pay for May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by First Class Pachaging These are the best packing boxes we've found. These boxes are the right size, resilient and a great value. May 3, 2016
