Customer Questions & Answers

One time use? Once you take off do you need to get a new lid?

Asked by: DDH
Like most 5 gallon containers with lids (5 gallon bucket of paint for example) one the lid is put on, you can't take it off until you remove a plastic strip around the bottom of the lid. Once you remove that strip you can remove and replace the lid over and over again. I wanted to use it to store beans and rice to keep bugs out, so I was going to remove the strip so the bucket could be opened and reclosed. As you can see from the picture, the top lid is what you buy, the bottom lid had the strip removed (you just tear it off) so that the lid can be removed.

Would this lid be leakproof on other 5 gallon buckets?

I own a few standard 5 gallon buckets that I would like lids for, so I was wondering if these would work.
Asked by: John
Hello John, It should fit most 5 Gal buckets. Most of them have the same top rim so it should seal. If you would like take one of your buckets with you the next time you go to your local Home Depot and try it on. If you purchase it on homedepot.com and it doesn't work you can always return it to your local store.

The lids were just slightly too large to fit the buckets!! Others have not had this problem, so make sure that the lid fits before you buy. It is so close to fitting, but WILL NOT FIT. They are only about a millimeter too large, but it won't allow the lid to fit down on the pail, no matter how hard I try.

Their diameter is wrong for the bucket, just slightly, but just enough to screw you up. This review is not to dissuade customers from buying these, because who am I'm kidding, we're stuck with this junk. The purpose is to plead with HD corporate buyers to, a) bring back the old, durable lid, or b) offer two options.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's a lid... It's a lid for a Home Depot bucket... What else is there to say? I'm using my Homer buckets to grow strawberries. I drilled 12 holes around the sides of each bucket, put a lid (with a hole drilled through) on the bottom two and stacked them 3 high. Now I have strawberry towers. 40 plants in the space of a bar stool!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes the bucets tunable Simply fill the buckets to varying levels and apply this wonderful lid to create a waterproof seal. Invert and beat unmercilessly with sticks. Put a couple together and you have a trap kit. Place an extra lid up-side-down by itself and now you are busking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These fit perfectly on cans of spackle, ready-mix, and joint compound sold at Home Depot These Home Depot branded lids fit perfectly on any of the 5-gallon pails/buckets of joint compound/spackle/ready-mix sold at Home Depot but more importantly the orange colored lids are easily removable unlike the lids which originally come with the pails of joint compound. While they are almost half the cost of the "Home Depot Homer" orange colored pails they complete what is already a inexpensive way to recycle empty joint compound pails. I always keep a empty bucket and lid in the car which helps minimize clutter but more importantly can be put into service at a moment's notice. There is nothing you cannot do with a empty joint compound pail and good lid....car wash pail, mop bucket, tool box, emergency garbage can, outdoor seat (the best!), storage for open bags of ice-melt, the list goes on and on. When I want to impress people I use the brightly colored 5-gallon Home Depot Homer bucket, and if I just want a emergency disposable bucket then its a used/recycled joint compound bucket.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cracks.... one time use? These are alright if you want to fill the bucket up with something and not open it. It has the tear off security. After that the lid cracks real easy. 3 out of 3 broken
