5-1/4 in. D x 36 in. L Crown Moulding Shelf is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the fourth Magellan Group shelf I have purchased.... This is the fourth Magellan Group shelf I have purchased. I use one above the guest room bed in place of a headboard (4'), and a smaller version in the guest bathroom. We used another 4' shelf as the main component for a gorgeous DIY wall-mounted coat rack in our previous home. I missed it so much that we purchased the shelf again to recreate the coat rack for our new home (this time a 3' shelf due to space limitations). The shelf is real wood and absolutely beautiful. We have had no quality issues with any of the 4 purchased. Everyone comments on how nice they are. I would absolutely recommend this shelf to anyone!

They were definitely what we expected. However, we also ordered (2) 24" shelves to go above the 36" shelves. When we opened the boxes, we found that 1 of the 24" shelves was a different shade of white. We had to return the off-white shelf and then ordered 2 more 24" shelves in the hope that 1 of the 2 would match our other 3 shelves. I don't know how you can have a different shade of white. Doesn't the warehouse check them out before they box them. Now it has delayed our installation until we are satisfied that all 4 shelves match up.

When my shelf arrived from my an online purchase, I was impressed with how nice it looked. Solid, well build, nice paint job. Yeah! It’s just what I was looking for. Awesome, I thought. Once I read the directions, which are very clear and well written. I measured, marked and remeasured, everything was going nicely. Yeah! When the first screw wobbled as I tried to drill it into the stud, I said to myself. Wait! What? Upon further inspection, I realized that it was bent. Ok, I thought, they sent a bent screw. It can happen… I brought another out of my screw cache…. (yes, we women have those too ;) It went in perfectly, smooth as butter. Yeah! One support down, one to go. I got this! Yeah! Second support block…. I placed the screw in the appropriate place as marked, slowly accelerated the speed of the drill, pressed hard on the drill to keep it from spinning on the screw head and gunned it. To my surprise, the screw folded into it’s self and completely ‘recoiled’. What! The drill hit the wall as it slid off the screw head and made a hole in the wall. Wait! What! Several words I rarely use quickly came spilling out of my mouth, the kind of words your mother would bring out the bar of soap for in the good ole days. I couldn’t believe it! Ok, after chuckling over the whole thing, I brought some more screws out of ‘the screw cache’ and proceeded to secured the block to the wall. Moving forward to the next step on the journey, I attempted to place the shelves on the pine wood support blocks…. At first it’s eluded me as to why the grooves inside the shelve wouldn’t sit into the notched portion of the support block. Upon further inspection, I realized the the block was not far enough away from the wall to allow the groove to sit on the notch. UGH! Really!!! They cut them incorrectly???? Now ‘the words’ where again spilling forth, quickly followed by amusement. Not only are they not deep enough or long enough, but there is not really much of a notch to properly sit in the groove. Hmmmmm? What to do? After scanning my cache of ‘I’ll use this someday’ options, I decided to bridge the ⅛” gap needed with some felt. This worked well enough to bring the block away from the wall, and the shelf dropped into place nicely. Yeah! I took the shelf back off, so I could reevaluate the strength of the now modified support system. I decided it would work for now, but wanted to check with home depot for other, more reassuring options. I decided to have new blocks made, this time out of HARDWOOD... for heavens sake! They are much longer, have a taller notch, sit away from the wall far enough and give me piece of mind. Hey, I should sell these! Let me know if you would like a set sent to you. ;) So, except for the cheap wood blocks with cracks in them and the ‘why bother sending them screws’ they have a good product. Marketable, Sellable… Genius! Brilliant!!! Well, I’m not so sure about that, but I’d already spent a good deal of time measuring, marking, drilling, and mutilating my freshly painted wall. So, what's a gal to do? I had to take a picture and as I was laughing about the incredible episode, I realized that the first screw was probably not sent crooked, but had started to collapse under the pressure too. I will send an image of the finished project later… after I finish patting myself on the back for another job well done…

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No thanks! I ordered this shelf online but returned it immediately upon opening it at the store. There is definitely a problem with quality control. There were at least 4 areas where the finish was messed up. I will not be reordering!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect crown moulding shelf! It's exactly what I was looking for! Super easy to hang and looks great! Feels expensive but was considerably cheaper than any I found online. I placed the shelf above a row of hooks and put a chair rail in between so it looks like one cohesive unit!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Impressed I had read other reviews that said their shelves arrived with dings and chipped paint. Keeping this in mind, as soon as I received my shelves (I ordered 3), I went over each with a fine toothed comb. The shelves were packaged with tightly fitted Styrofoam around both ends and in the middle. Each one of mine arrived in pristine condition. It also came fairly fast, I ordered on Friday and it arrived on Thursday. The only snag I ran into is the shelves wouldn't sit flush with my wall in the middle, making them unable to properly hook onto the wooden blocks that hold the shelves to the wall. I didn't want to have to nail through the top of the shelves into the blocks, so instead I cut a piece of the cardboard box it came in to the exact size of the wooden blocks. I then screwed the cardboard squares behind each block tightly into the wall. This moved the sides out just the right amount to have the shelves connect appropriately and securely. Using this method made the backs of the shelves completely flush with the wall and none of the cardboard is visible. This may have just been a problem with my wall as I don't remember anyone else mentioning it. Very easy fix, no big deal at all. As far as the look, I think the white crown moulding really fit with the white crown moulding found throughout my house. I finally have somewhere to display photos from our travels, I really couldn't be happier with how these shelves turned out.
