The Rebels Shade Mix for Tall Fescue grass seed is a tough, high quality turf grass that is designed for areas that receive limited sun each day. It contains tall fescue varieties blended with fine fescue for shade tolerance, allowing the flexibility to grow a beautiful lawn in shady conditions. The Rebels Extended Roots seed varieties maximize a lawn's ability to thrive, even under the toughest summer conditions. The Rebels Tall Fescue grass seed grows up to 40% more roots than ordinary grass at deeper depths for excellent drought resistance and nutrient uptake, helping your lawn thrive.

  • Produces a darker, greener and denser lawn than Kentucky-31 and other tall fescues
  • A cool season, aggressive, perennial bunchgrass that develops a uniform, thick turf as it matures
  • Maintains a deep green color throughout the growing season
  • Contains improved heat, drought and disease resistant varieties
  • withstands heavy traffic, insects, and drought for lower maintenance
  • Grows up to 40% more roots than ordinary grass for excellent drought resistance and nutrient uptake
  • Best for partial shade (less than 4 hours of sun per day)
  • Germinates in 7-21 days
  • Covers up to 5,000 sq. ft.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for shady areas! We used this product in a large area of our backyard that had been dug down to the dirt. It is an area that has many trees and is very shady. The grass came up beautifully (much to our surprise and delight!). I would definitely recommend! June 18, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Germinates in 7 days! I started with Scott's EZ Seed all in one. Not a good choice. Then I switched to Rebel Shade mix, outstanding results. Add water and straw instant results. July 3, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Seed, But Expensive... I planted this as a new seeding. I tore up my yard that nothing but weeds would grow in, mixed in a little top soil here and there, and about 10 days later, I started seeing little peach fuzz patches. 2 days after that, and a good thunderstorm/heavy rain or two later, and BAM! It almost needs a good mulch mow, but I'll give it a few more days. I was leery about getting anything to grow in my yard, as there are trees blocking the sun in many places, but this shade mix is growing everywhere! I planted in early spring while it was still cool, which is why it took a little longer than expected to start showing. I am extremely pleased with this purchase, even if it was an expensive one. It took 1 1/2 bags just for my front yard and I have more yard to go. I was just waiting to see how this seed did in the front before planting the rest. The Rebels is awesome seed, and I have yet to see any weeds growing within the planted grass. April 30, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by super easy minimal effort The associate who helped me basically said toss it and leave it. So that is what I did. It has filled in wonderfully with minimal effort and care. Which is good as I know very little about lawns. April 29, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Grass Seed Purchase So Far Planted in spring before the last frost. Planted regular Fescue at the same time. The Shade mix came up first and looks fantastic. It will be in full shade in a week or so. It is now May 6th. When planted, there were no leaves on the trees so the seeds got q good bit of sun to start. I wish I had the $ to spend on more. The price makes it hard to buy. The regular grade fescue grows well in full sun after established but can burn if not watered when sprouting. By the way, I do not prep the soil/grass/hard clay. Keeping the seedlings watered daily for the first couple of weeks seems to be important. Good Luck! May 6, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Germinated fine, doing well. will see how it does next year We bought this grass, planted it in an area that has pretty much no sun the second week of September. It is now close to the end of October. It germinated in a week and looks great. We'll see if it lives through the winter and how well it does next year. So far we are very pleased with it. I wish it wasn't quite so expensive though. October 21, 2014
