Customer Questions & Answers

Can this be put over old wall paper or applied if a part of the old paper backing is still on the wall?

I have grass cloth in a hallway. I removed one section. the front grass cloth and backing came off fine, but left a thin paper film on the wall. I have tried all day with wall paper remover to get this off. It will only come off in 1/4 inch small strips, after using the remover. can this paper be put on with that film on the wall?
Asked by: Teresa
I peeled off old vinyl paper which left backing. I cut out with utility knife large areas of backing that weren't tight against the wall (just like circular cuts, then pulled off loose backing) Small areas I ignored. I then papered right over the remaining backing. Adhesive apparently soaked thru to the wall. Looks great a month later.

After smoothing a textured wall, what is the best treatment of the wall for installing this paintable wallpaper? Oil or water? Paint or primer?

Asked by: Dick
Paint or primer. Even did some areas without paint or primer.

56 sq. ft. White Paintable Wallpaper is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beatifies with drying time..... I purchased this paper to cover bad looking walls. I spent hours papering a very large room. When I stood back and really looked you could see all the imperfections of the bad walls under the paper. As a widow I admit I sat and cried. I had every intentions of hiring someone to come and strip it off. Then something surprising happened. After a few days it must have dried because it ended up looking beautiful. The instruction says to immerse this paper in water which saturates it. I believe that is why it can look bumpy and wrinkled when first applied. Just keep in mind that all of that goes away after it thoroughly dries. I used the beadboard style and it now looks beautiful!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks great Purchased this product because we took down some old wall paper in a house we had just purchased and the walls were in horrible shape. We just wanted a plain painted wall, but there was no amount of sanding that was going to fix this mess.I hate wall paper and I vowed that I would never put up wall paper again, but after trying to smooth out the bumps in the wall to no avail, I decided to try to find something neutral to try to cover up the horrible wall. I came across this textured paper. It says it can be painted but we just left it white as this was the color we wanted. It went up relatively easily and looks terrific. The difference between the old bumpy walls and this is day and night. You would never know the walls were a mess underneath. Everything looks smooth and flat, except for the simple texture to the paper. Great for covering up crummy walls. Really looks good. Good price too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good textured wallpaper I liked everything about the wallpaper from the looks to the ease of installation EXCEPT it is not so easy to cut clean lines. It is a thick and soft wallpaper and even with a clean and new exacto knife, I got some ragged edges. Luckily I could hide them. I didn't paint the paper as I wanted a creamy white but it looks like it would take paint very easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product!!! I purchased this product to cover damaged drywall. Since this was my first time putting up wallpaper I wasconcerned about how successful I would be. Although the instructions say to soak the paper in water I found that to be too messy & chose to use wp paste. Worked like a charm. The walls look brand new and I am so pleased with the results

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More on this wallpaper . . . At my last post I was half way through a long kitchen wall. This paper is really easy to work with. I measure and cut an X where there's an outlet, then cut with scissors around the outlet box. I wait until the paper is dry before I cut off the top at the ceiling. It' so easy. Also, don't panic if you're smoothing your paper down the wall and you come across a bubble. Don't try to squish it out to the edge, just take a sharp knife or a pin and poke a hole in the paper, then squish the air bubble out. It'll never show. I still say, DON'T put this or any wallpaper in water. It's worth the few extra dollars to get pre-pasted wallpaper paste. I 'paint' the edges with a paint brush, then roll it on all over with a foam roller. And I use enough to make it slimy. You still have to book it and wait a few minutes for the glue to activate the glue on the wallpaper. Then stick it up on the wall and damp sponge smooth. So easy. It does drink paint. But all textured paintable wallpapers do. If you're using a dark color with deep pigment tones, you're going to need 2-3 coats. It's better to do several thin coats than one thick coat. Just did my accent wall in a rich turquoise blue, like the water around Bermuda. Fabulous! I did 3 coats because I'm persnickety and I have the time to do things my way. LOL. I have found that this paper covers a multitude of sins. It's unreasonable to expect any wallpaper to cover big holes and gouges in the wall. My walls are anything but smooth and I am pleased with the 'camouflage' this textured paper offers. I have moved many outlets and patched where the old ones were. Can't even see where I put the patches in. Great paper all around. Do it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from White Wallpaper I bought this wallpaper and put it up over the weekend, I had no problem with the paper. It was very easy to use. I didn't have any issues with it not sticking to the wall.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from very unsatified This paper is advertised as remain white or paint, but it had black and caramel stains on it, luckily I planned on painting it. I put it up as per instructions and the next morning it was hanging from the walls. It peeled right back off. I had to go to the hardware store and buy Suregrip to put on the paper before I rehung it. I have hung alot of wallpaper and this is the first time this has ever happened. Needless to say I was not happy.
