Customer Questions & Answers

What is the mil thickness. Is it 12 mil?

Asked by: florida019
I have used one of these. And I will be getting another. It is easier for one person to roll up the lighter cover. That said, this was lighter than the one I had from Leslie's pool. That one was a 5yr warranty and rated at 12mil. Their 3year cover is rated at 8 mil. I assume this one from Home Depot is 8mil as well based on it is easier top roll up. Both the 12mil and the 8mil seem to last a about a year for me in the Arizona sun. The UV and Chlorine do a number on them no matter what the warranty says. (I do take the cover off July/Aug and cover it from the direct sun.) The heavier ones are usually prorated if you want to deal with that. Now I just go with the cheaper 8mil cover from Home Depot. It adds a few weeks for us at both ends of the swim season and cuts down on chlorine usage as well. It probably almost pays for itself. I just figure it in as normal pool maintenance. Hope this helps.

Should the bubbles up or downward

Asked by: Pudden
Down. If the bubbles were up, debris would get caught in them too easily.

Can this be used as a cover during the winter

Asked by: Veta55
I use it as a cover all year except for July and August. But I live in the desert. I take it off every few weeks in the winter to brush and clean the pool. I don't know where you are or your winter conditions.

can these be cut to fit?

Asked by: Teslawasrobd
Yes the pool cover needs to be cut to fit the surface of the water area. To heat effectively the cover needs to lay on the water. Chlorine floats should be removed when the cover is used, as the concentrated chemicals will tend to damage the area of the cover they are in contact with. I put the 3" tablets in the skimmer when the cover is in place which circulates the chlorine through the system when the filter pump is running. My chlorine float would float at the opposite corner of the pool from the reel. After one season my cover started to tear and deteriorate at the corner where the floater would sit beneath the cover.

16 ft. x 32 ft. 3-Year Rectangular Blue In-Ground Solar Pool Blanket is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great price, did the job This got my pool to 87 degrees while air temp was averaging in the upper 70s.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Deal! I purchased this pool blanket at Home Depot. In the past, I had always bought it at Lowe's because they are close to my home. Lowe's was out of this item. I decided to purchase online. Home Depot had the best price. It was significantly lower than Lowe's. The pool blanket was delivered very quickly and in god condition. Very happy with the purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from pool cover This is my third in 3 years, but other than when we are in the pool, letting cool down night, or cleaning it the cover stays 24/7/365. Don't get a significantly better life out of more expensive covers from the big pool stores, so accomplishes what I expect it to do, conserve water and warm it up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely worth the money This solar cover is well worth the money. It has paid for itself within the first two months on our water bill down here in Florida, by eliminating the water evaporation (and subsequently having to add water to the pool). Our water bill had skyrocketed once we got out of the "rainy" season and after checking all our uses of water, we realized it was all the water we were having to add to the pool. So I definitely say this is a great deal. The bonus is that it also helped raise the pool temperature, along with our solar panels, by at least 10 degrees. It is also very easy to cut and fit to your pool.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too thin of plastic This item should be made of heavier material. !!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Investment We have seen our screened pool increase temperature by six degrees (F) since adding the blanket, from 80 to 86 degrees.. As a test I left the cover off one night and saw the temperature drop by 3 degrees. We leave it on the pool when it is not in use. We did decide to purchase a solar roller also as it is a bit of an inconvenience to remove the 16x32 cover. I would have also purchased a longer cover to begin with had I known I was purchasing the solar roller.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solar pool cover Pretty simple review - this solar pool cover comes in a big box, you unfold it, and lay it on top of the water. It keeps the water warm (when it's really hot, the water can almost be too warm), helps to keep leaves out of the pool (if you keep the cover clean on top), and helps with evaporation (which is a problem now with the drought).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Economical and it works! It's only a 3 year cover so hopefully it will last at least 2 years. For the price it's worth it. I suppose if you have to cut a new cover every few years it can be tedious as compared to a 10 year pool cover.
