Customer Questions & Answers

What size pool will this cover, what shape, is it trimable?

Asked by: maxwell
This blanket is a 20 foot x 40 foot rectangle. This product can be cut to size after acclimating for a couple of days.

what is mil rating for this blanket?

Asked by: Smokey
I don't know exactly but I think its 10 mil. I am basing this on weight. I noticed in the specs it weighs less than other 20x40 covers advertised as 12 mil at other retailers. It's kind of silly they don't include that in the specs (it's not on the product packaging either) since mil appears to be the standard rating method for solar covers.

is it manually taken off or does it some kind of device to retract it

Asked by: rfender
Manual. This is the cover only. You would have to buy a reel separately if you want that. My understanding is most reels are manually operated but some do have a motor built in for auto operation.

20 ft. x 40 ft. 5-Year Rectangular Blue Above Ground Solar Pool Blanket is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from This product has been a great experiment for this swim season We were able to raise the pool temp 16 degrees in just a couple weeks before the grandchildren arrived for a week of swimming! The cover was described as 1" thick, but certainly was not. I'm not sure this made a difference...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thermo-Tex It's a good cover. I don't think I found the white plastic cover to cover that cover when it's under the sun. Did you give up putting it in the box ?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Five Year Warrantee is A Joke The cover was easy to cut and fit my pool and it did add a couple of months to the swimming season. Just as important to me here in Tucson, Arizona it did save money in evaporation costs. The air is dry and can get very hot in the summer here! However, due to the high summer temperatures and possibly the dry air (5-10 percent is normal in the winter and much of the year) the blanket started to get brittle and the bubbles started to come apart and fill the strainer cup on my equipment. I sent a one square foot sample to Polyair's headquarters in Toronto as required ($10.00 mailing cost) and my claim was denied for the following reason: "After careful observation, we found that the main reason for degradation is high amounts of chemical deposits all over the sample provided by you. Visually looking at the sample, it appears that the disinfectant being used is not maintained at a proper level, and/or the cover is not being properly cleaned and stored when not in use." The chlorine level was never above recommended levels and the blanket was never stored during the 15 months of use. Any chemical deposits on sample were lime deposits from hard water. Maybe the blanket will survive longer in Canadian conditions, but I would not recommend this product or this company.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from pool cover The pool blanket will save a tremendous amount of evaporation in the pool, thus saving a lot on the water bill. especially during this drought period in California. I would highly recommend it. But it will normally take two people to correctly put in over the pool. let it lay over the pool for about a week and then trim to the shape of the pool.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great purchase to extend our swimming season The blanket arrived well packaged and in good condition. It was easy for two people to unroll and place on pool surface. It came with instructions to leave for a few days to settle, for the creases to release and possibly shrink before cutting to size. It cuts easily with a pair of sharp scissors and stays on pool surface due to surface tension. There have been several windy days and the cover stayed on the pool. It doesn't seem to have shrunk but the creases have softened a lot. We still need to trim and attach the blanket to the roller - the quality of the material is high. It is too early to comment on the durability as we have only had it a week or so but we can report that the water temperature has risen 4 degrees (at least at the surface we haven't been in the pool to swim yet) and we are happy with our purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from pool solar blanket We purchased this pool solar blanket because we live at the 2000 foot level and the solar blanket helps warm up the pool water. If we didn't use the solar blanket our pool use would be down to two months out of the year. With the blanket we can use the pool about four or five months out of the year. We do havea propane heater for the pool but it would take too much propane to heat the entire pool. We just use it to heat the Jacuzzi.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value This cover is much thicker and heavier than ones used over past 15 years. Takes two to handle the 20'x40' but anticipating it will last longer than the thin covers used in recent years. Cost a bit more than thinner versions but they deteriorated so quickly decided to try this one.
