Customer Questions & Answers

how to open the can. I followed directions but only the white plastic cap came off.

Asked by: carol
There is a metal seal to the can. I think I just used a screw driver to punch a hole through it.

Can you dilute this to make it to cover more. If so what should I use?

Asked by: Mneedham
The label and instruction say not to dilute it. You could dilute it but it will not protect as well. Based on the CAS (MSDS) sheet and the label I would guess it is waterbased and water would be the appropriate material to dilute with.

Does this product contain parafin?

Asked by: JW
I saw nothing on the packaging that says anything about parafin. I looked on the Thompson's web site and didn't see anything there. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks brand new! After pressure washing my deck and using this product and doing a double coat application, I have to say my deck looks brand new! WOW! Considering my deck is already 17 years old. This product works wonders. Water sealing really worked as well as the water beads formed, when it rain after 4 hours of drying time with the temperature about in the mid-eighties and sunny. I was worried when the rain came. But was really relieved and satisfied when the water sealing property really worked with that amount of drying time. For a first time user of this product, I am impressed!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Waterseal - Semi-transparent Woodland Cedar I have ramps at my house and they are wood so I always waterproof them with water sealant and used the Thompson's Semi-transparent Woodland Cedar this time. It coated well and went on over the wood which is old and seated the few stud holes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Magic in a can The Thompson's WaterSeal stain I got is perfect from Home Depot. Semi-transparent Woodland Cedar . I tested it out on a step of the deck in the yard. Perfect! and the wife loves it too. I am going to apply it also to my Wooden park bench over the next few days when weather is warm and clear. It rained a little last night and you can see the test area in the picture how the water beads up off the deck. Thats great!! Our deck is in the back portion of my yard and gets a great deal of sunlight during the day. This all in one product is great. It stains, it seals and last all season long. I like that just like new look so I actually apply the sealer down late spring and again in the fall. It keeps the water out of the wood and prevents mother nature from ruining my prized creations. What more can you ask for. Really good product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great water protection I've used Thompsons for years and their protectant works great. This time I chose a semi-transparent waterproofing stain. I have a patio that needs stain, so I chose this product. The wood has some water damage, so I opted for the semi-transparent stain. I also figured that Woodland Cedar would be a good color match. I didn't want to go with the opaque stain, even though it lasts longer. I first cleaned the wood with a pressure washer. I let the wood dry, then I taped off the area I didn't want the stain to get on. I used an airless sprayer to spray the product on. I had to adjust the flow down, because it ran pretty easily. When I got it adjusted, the spraying went very quickly. I let the first coat dry, then hit it with a second coat. After it completely dried, I took a good look at the patio. The color of the stain is a bit more orangeish than I expected and I think it has a fake look to it. The patio does look like new, which is a major improvement from the previous The grain does show through, which is nice. I may be a bad judge of the color and look, because I'm comparing it to the water damaged wood from before (dark looking wood).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Woodland Cedar is Super BRIGHT ORANGE The semi-transparent is pretty much opaque. And it is bright orange, especially after it rains and then the sun comes out. It was done in the spring and now that summer is almost done it has faded a bit to a more acceptable orange, but still very much orange. If it doesn't fade more after this winter, I am thinking of covering it with a dark gray to cover the brightness and blend better with the color of my house. At least I won't have to have the deck powerwashed in the spring. It does repel water very well.
