This solid color stain is only to be used on wood that is either old, badly stained, or has other cosmetic problems. It is thicker than paint. I used it to cover a new deck that was badly stained with black walnuts. The stain easily covered these stains, and is preventing new stains.
I put it on using both a roller and then finishing with a brush. The roller left the "roll" marks on the deck, but they were easily brushed out.
I am only giving it four stars because of two reasons. First, I almost had a panic attack when I started the project, the stain came out of the can looking like chocolate milk. Definitely not the color I had in mind. Secondly, the stain requires a full two coats. It is so thick that it actually streaks, so two coats is necessary for a finished look.

I stained a portion of my backyard deck which is an older deck with a lot of blemishes and damaged wood. This is why I went with a solid stain instead of a transparent one. I used a paint brush to apply it to the railings and steps. It went on easily and dried very quickly. Because of all the other products I have used on this deck over the years, I will give it another coat of stain. I liked that everything cleans up with just soap and water. I would have given it 5 stars except the color on the can is darker than the actual color on my wood. It looks more like a chocolate milk color but it's treated and that's the important issue at hand. On the next section of decking, I plan on doing the flooring with a roller and just use a brush for touch ups.

First things first, this is fully opaque and has similar coverage to paint. There is a semi-transparent stain in the same color so make sure you're ordering the right thing.
General: The stain is THICK with the consistency and color of melted milk chocolate. (I didn't even try to clean my brush when I was done, straight in the trash). I painted ~10 pieces of patio furniture by hand because I felt it was too thick for the paint sprayer, but if you were willing to thin it down it might work.
Coverage: Very thick with full coverage. Because the furniture I was painting was extremely old, it took two coats in some places to get total coverage. Newer wood would likely just require the single coat. A gallon of this stuff covered 3 large benches, one table, and 6 chairs and I still have some remaining.
Overall: This stain effectively made my old, ratty ready-for-the-trash outdoor furniture look brand new again. It may be a bit heavy for newer wood (consider the semi-transparent) but for full coverage without the worry of flaking, this is your stuff.

This stuff is wonderful. It is thicker than regular water seal, more like a pudding in texture. It stays on your brush well as a result and doesn't try to drop off while you're painting. I put it on a 15 year old deck stair area that had checks the beginnings of rot. Swept it well, rinsed it and then let it dry was my only preparation. The paint restored the look of the deck to like new. If filled cracks and suspect areas. The color was so rich and warm looking. When it dried, the paint would bead water like a new wax job on a car. I love this stuff. It saved me having to replace the deck. Coverage was great too. One gallon covered the stoop and the steps and all the fancy trim that made up the railing. It's a bargain

Thompson's stain was a great choice for outdoor bench. They have several colors and finishes to choose from. You get water proofing, stain and it resist mildew and uv damage. Durable outdoor wood protector.
