Can this product be used on a previously sealed deck.

My deck was sealed last year with a Rustoleum sealer. Most of it has peeled off. Can I use your product to reseal and cover the previous product that will not come off?
Asked by: Ron
It will likely peel if you don't sand first.

1 gal. Solid Acorn Brown Waterproofing Stain is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 44.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stain! My wife and I recently purchased a new home, and I used this stain on the dock in my back yard. The wood looked a little worn, and boy does this make it better. The color is just right and it is very clean looking. Matched with light or darker schemes that you may have with your home, so you don't have to worry about color clashing. I am going to start staining my fence next with the same color. Just remember, it is all in the prep work. Make sure you pressure clean and sand the surface so the stain sets in properly. Also, you may have to use two coats. One gallon does go a long way, though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dries Fast & covers well This stain dries really fast! I sampled it on a single piece of pressure treated 5/4 board and it was dry to the touch in 20 minutes. Of course several factors affect this timing, this was just test. The solid color hides OK with one coat, but does even better with a second coat, two coats are always better than one. Note; you have to wait a couple hours before applying a second coat. The odor was fairly low on this product and the coverage was average in my experience. Overall the color looks great and the drying time was great, but I'm not sure how well it will do over time so I will update this review in six months. My deck is exposed to all day sun and is next to a pool so we will see.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Stuff is Outstanding! Bought it for Solid OAK Fence Posts... Ok I am a Huge Fan of Thompson's Water Seal & Stains! I got this 5 Gallons to Treat & Waterproof my Solid Oak 6x8 Fence Posts so they can survive the clay soil on my property. Well I just couldn't get to waterproofing all those posts before winter set in... HOWEVER... A little mishap with a vehicle & my mailbox... I broke it out INSIDE the work shop to Stain & seal the new mailbox post & platform. You see it's in single digits here & this has to go on with a Temp better than 65 Degrees to set & dry right. So I was blessed having the Acorn Stain by Thompson's Water Seal on hand to take care of this. This Stuff goes on smooth & fills cracks well. I did notice that even inside at 70 degrees it took about 2 hours to fully dry before further 2nd coat. I Love this stuff! Easy On, Easy Cleanup... Waterproofing that Works!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed! I purchased 3 cans of the solid maple for my deck last June. I power washed the deck, dried it for a few days, it needed 2 coats, and 3 in some areas.(dried completely before each coat) Looked great last spring/summer/fall. Water beaded and it looked so good that I no longer needed an outdoor rug to cover my deck. Well here it is spring and winter over in Illinois and this is what it looks like now that the snow is all off of it. I don't recommend this product. Try something else. Now I have to retain this spring again. I live by myself and no one was on the deck all winter.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This Stain is a JOKE This Stain is a joke I'm a professional Deck Maintenance Contractor, and I'v been using Olympic Stain, but I gave it a try with stain because a costumer asked me. I did her deck and it looked really nice a natural, so I recommended to other costumers and stained a few more. Now, a year past and I stared receiving calls from those costumers. The stain is peeling off, in fact, on one of the decks it lasted 3 months. Good thing I stained only 4 decks, but still lost a lot of money. I called Thompson's to complain, and they might refund the money for the stain, but not for the labor. Also, they want a copy of the receipt, so you should look for the receipt, if you have the same problem. Garbage Product
