The back deck on the house is 28 years old and has reached it's design life. However, about 8 years ago the 2X6 deck boards were carefully removed, turned over, and re-nailed back onto the support beams, revealing a fresh surface. To further extend the life of the deck, I have now decided to protect it with Thompsonâs WaterSeal Waterproofing Stain in Harvest Gold. The solid formula was chosen due to the age of the deck. Surface preparation consisted of pressure washing and cleaning before application. Iâm astonished at how good the deck looks now. Itâs like a new deck
Applying the Thompsonâs WaterSeal Waterproofing Stain is very simple using an outdoor deck pad, deep well tray, and extension pole. It only requires one coat, applied liberally. The only word of caution is to not stop and restart along lengths of boards, or there can be a noticeable (minor) change in color. Cleanup is very easy being itâs a water-based formula.
I highly recommend using Thompsonâs WaterSeal Waterproofing (Solid) Stain for extending the life of aged and weathered decks. Of course rotten boards must be replaced.as needed.

I applied this stain to the flooring of a portion of my deck which is old and has many blemishes. At first I thought it was an inferior product because it wasn't covering up the wood. Then I realized I was using a short matted roller cover instead of a fluffy one. Once I changed roller covers, the stain went on so smooth and covered the old deck flooring with ease. The color is pretty, especially when the sun shines on it. I love that everything cleans up with soap and water. Because my deck is older, I will be applying another coat of stain. I think on a fairly new deck, one coat might be enough though. On the next section of decking, I plan on using this color for the steps and railings. I think I might buy some small paint pads to apply this stain with. I either didn't have the right brush for touch up spots or it doesn't apply well using a brush. I really won't know the answer to this issue until I start the next section. I gave it 5 stars because it is worthy of them. Only time will tell how it holds up or if it peels like other brands I have tried in the past. So far I am happy with this solid stain by Thompson.

I have been using regular Thompson's WaterSeal for decades,I know a decade is a long time but when you find a product that works you stick with it.
I just put up a new fence and there is nothing uglier then a fence slowly turning gray.So I was going to water seal it but the boards natural colors were very inconsistent and varied widely.
Harvest Gold looked like it would be a great color to apply to the fence. So with roller in hand off I went.
The fence looks fantastic and is even in color not one board darker or lighter then the other. There is a 15 year warranty but I will still re apply in 5 to 7 years because of all the rain we get in the northwest.
You really cant go wrong with Thompson's products and this one is Excellent.
