Although the instructions warned me not to, I thinned the "water soluble" stain so it would spray evenly with a Hudson sprayer. About 60% water to 40% Thompson's. I figure the water will dry and the only thing left will be the original product.
As I walked along my 80' x 6' fence with the sprayer, I used a cheap 4" paint brush to spread it evenly. Seemed to be working fine. Went back for a few touch-ups then cleaned up.
About 2 hours later the fence looked perfect. I splashed a little pool water on it and viola, water beaded just like I hoped. I'll add to this review in a few months and let everyone know how it's holding up.

We recently completed a deck extension project. After allowing sufficient time for the wood to dry, we decided to protect the surface using Thompson’s WaterSeal Waterproofing Stain. The Transparent Harvest Gold Stain adds a little color to the original wood, yet still allows the wood grains to be visible.
Installation is very easy using a Painter’s Pad and it applied evenly throughout the deck, as long as you don’t stop and restart after it dries. It penetrates deep into the wood with one coat and dries in only 2 hours. Because it’s water-based, cleanup is also very simple.
We are very pleased with the Thompson’s Waterproofing Stain for our new deck. It is perfect for protecting new decks or restoring older weathered decks.

I built my new deck late last summer and wanted to let the wood cure and dry out really well before staining. I chose Thompson's Waterproofing Stain and it was a very pleasant surprise! The one gallon coverage according to the can was up to 400 square feet. I bought 2 gallons for my 10x40 deck. I was extremely pleased with the ease of application and how far the product went. I did my entire deck, some steps, and 3 benches with only one gallon! Dried in one hour (hot sunny day). Dries to a satin finish, and the water beading is incredible. Highly Recommended!

Finish on my porch still beading water after second winter. The part of my redwood porch deck that gets direct sun all the time has about lost its protection after two years, but the areas protected from the severe effects of the sun is ok for another year. This Thompson's Waterseal is very thin and could be sprayed. I used a roller and brush and was satisfied with application. Wood grain really shows through.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by RDS822 Very Tedious and Hard to manage;
Appears that everyone but me had a good experience, but I've hated trying to put the product on. I enlarged my old deck. After a year of letting the new cure, I pressured washed and then used the deck cleaner to clean the entire deck. I really liked the old thompsons that was clear and last 3-4 years, but that warranty only comes with the tinted stains now. I build furniture and have done woodworking for many years. First issue is mine, and because the banister rail is both metal and wood it was tedious to put the stain around all the handrail and not get it on the metal banisters and decklights. Because the 'wet' color is not the same as the dry, its very hard to judge the coverage until its dry. I found it to streak very badly. I've had to go back over most of the deck to sand off the streaks and globs, then reapply. Just extremely frustrating. What I was planning to take one saturday, I'm now on saturday #5. and I have no idea how to fix it now other than to sand and start over.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mark Easy Way To Add Color
I've used Thompson's water seal for years for decks and to seal concrete. This new line of stain/water sealer combo is a great way to add color and protect any porous surface. The transparent is very transparent so I would maybe recommend the semi-opaque instead if you really want to see the color clearly. But of course you should always test a small area to figure out what works best for your situation. I highly recommend this product.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by fastniky Thompson's seem to be even better than before.
We got this waterproofing stain because we have some wooden sidewalk to protect. I have used Thompson's waterseal products in the past and had good results, that's why I picked it. This time, the waterseal seemed to cover better, after 2 days it rained. The rain drops looked like the water drops on my waxed car.
