Customer Questions & Answers

I had no idea I needed to treat the wood pressured treated wood I bought. Should I buy Thompson's and treat the pressure treated wood ?

I had a great handyman build us a beautiful deck for our above ground pool. He never said a word about needing to do anything with the pressure treated wood. So I never did. I recently saw an ad so Thompson s in the Sunday paper. Should I get some and treat my deck?

LET NEW PRESSURE TREATED DECKS DRY BEFORE USING STAIN... A one month minimum dry time is recommended. That said, I'd wait as long as the painting season permits. If you have three months before it will get cold down there, then wait until then. It's important to have three good, consecutive dry days before applying the stain when ultimately decide to do it. And two-coat everything with a quality stain. Ask the paint store person about doing it and which product to use. Some stains are meant for walls and some for walking on.

Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. We have checked the Home Depot web site for the stain in the autumn brown .We see that brand would only come in the 2 colors for the stain. They are the Acorn brown as well as the Maple brown. If you would like to see the maple brown just place the Internet #204811664 on the Home depot web site search line to see it. We hope this helps with your project. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Thank you for shopping Home Depot.

Customer Reviews

5 gal. Acorn Brown Transparent Waterproofing Stain is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good finish This is a good finish. Low odor, and goes on great while letting the grain show. It also cleans up very easy with soap and water. The recoat is a bit difficult and very dependent on weather. The hue is a decent shade of brown...not too red, not too dark...just right for me but it is difficult to gauge if you are tryouts nag to match any specific color scheme. The wood grain plays a lot into it as well as the application. We have been bombarded with rain and water t has been difficult to find time to lay it down and now that I have and it has rained again, it beads quite nicely however, the performance of the same in semi-transparent has been less than ideal and re coat is quite difficult.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2 years still looks great!! It's been two years since I applied this to a pressure treated dog ear fence. usually after a couple of rains these fences fade. Needless to say mine hasn't. It still looks great. Applying it is tough depending on what you use. I found a roller with thick nap the best except in corners. A sponge works well too but causes more waste. Sprayer was a no go, splatters and you wind up having to sponge it around. Definitely worth the buy depending on your project. The color is pretty transparent, so keep in mind it will only slightly enhance the color you already have on whatever it is your sealing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to apply and give wood just a little something Basically a step up from plain water sealer with a splash of color. The liquid itself has a lot of color but does not transmit to the wood very much. As you can see from the photos, the wood stays pretty much the same color with a highlight of the grain. Repels water beautifully for 3 years on flat surfaces and 4 years on vertical surfaces. Easy to apply and clean up

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Best water sealer ever! Used this a year ago on my deck that was never stained or sealed. I sanded the deck well and applied Thompson Watersealer with a flat brush. Went on smoothly and evenly. Took me one afternoon. The color is a nice shade of reddish brown. Still looks fantastic and water repellancy has remained. Excellent product!

My fence is too gorgeous, omg :) Recommend it to everyone. The color a little bit reddish, but not too much, just right!
