Answer:
The planter is rubber, so it will not freeze. My cat even uses it to keep warm when weather gets cold

Answer:
This planter is guaranteed not to crack due to any type of freezing. Period. The natural properties of the rubber allow it to expand as water does when it changes from a liquid to a solid. Feel very comfortable that you can leave this planter outdoors, 365 days a year.

I just bought your Multy Home 27.5 in. Self-Watering Black Planter at Home Depot. There are no instructions on how to use this planter other than a list of features on a sticker inside the piece. I have a number of question regarding the proper use of this product:
1) If the rootball on the plants is 4-6" long and the reservoir top sits 6-7 inches above the bottom, how is the plant going to get water through the 14"-16" of potting soil in between?
2) where is the drain plug and how does one remove it? Can it be re-installed after it has been removed?
3) How does one know when to refill the reservoir

2) There is a rubber drain plug on the bottom of the planter that can be easily removed for use outdoors and re-installed for use indoors. Please see photo's below.
3) When using the planter outdoors, please remove the rubber plug. The reservoir is not meant to be an indicator to refill water, but rather an aid to help keep your plants properly hydrated by retaining 4" of water at the base of the planter. Depending on where you are located in the country, rain water should be sufficient in keeping your plants properly hydrated and you should only have to water every couple of weeks. There is no need to worry about over watering once the rubber plug is removed, as any excess water will automatically drain out the hole. Read Less
