Urgent - How long is the screw portion of the jack?

Can this raise a beam 6" without adjusting the bolts? I have cracked or broken beams over the living room of my mobilehome due to a tree falling on it and my weight when later sweeping the roof caused the ceiling to sink about 6" in the center. I need to put an interior beam across to raise it back up till I can get a real repair.
Asked by: DIYGrandma
The screw portion (fine adjustment) is 4.5 inches. The rough adjustment holes are 3 inches apart giving a 34-55 inch adjustment capability.

I plan on adding these under a concrete slab with concrete foundation. Do they still have to be bolted to top and bottom? The concrete slab has a 2000lb hot spa and large arched roof with the 8" uprights. The outer wall is just bricks two wide. It seems to be holding fine, I just want more piece of mind. House was built in 1962.

They do not have to be bolted or screwed in at the top or bottom. I have used them, as have millions of others, to support homes in crawl spaces. The weight they support keeps them securely in place. The through bolt must be used for height adjustment but no other bolts necessary. I use a concrete stepping stone on the ground under the jack post and a suitable wood beam or solid location at the top. Then tighten the adjusting nut. All done. Hope this helps..

Easy to put together. Did a nice job of supporting my wood floor. The adjusting screw comes in a plastic package and the screw is coated in oil, so you may want to use latex or similar gloves when handling it. I didn't have an issue with the plates floating separately but i can see where that may be an issue, but not a big one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use but height adjustments are limited The jack is easy to assemble and adjust, seemed very solid although I used it on a relatively small job (jacking up a play structure that probably weighs 1,000 pounds). The main issue is that they provide you a height range that it can lift which I assumed meant it covered all heights in between. But it has dead spots - for my purpose there was about a 7 inch dead spot that was falling right where I needed it. So I had to keep adjusting by adding different height boards on the uneven ground to make this work. It worked fine but if you don't have the flexibility to make those adjustments this product may not work for you. If I had a much heavier lift I would have been nervous stacking various boards under the jack.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Effective product The jack post is used to help support the floor above the crawl space in a rustic cabin in the Adirondacks. After I figured out that reversing one of the two telescoping tubes gives additional length flexibility it was easy to install. It is probably loaded much below its rated capacity - it seems to be doing the job. I would buy it again.
