Questions & Answers

I just had this installed by my contractor. He did not use the epoxy that was with it instead thinset and grout.

the floor moves when you walk on it. he says that if grout starts cracking he can spray the foam that hardens underneath it for support. should it move? I've read reviews if grout is cracking just putting more isn't the proper fix? help please?
Asked by: kdeal
The problem is that he didn't use enough mortar under the base to set it properly to the floor. The only way to fix it is pulling the pan up, you won't be able to get the expandable foam under the pan without lifting it up.

Should I still use 3/4" plywood underneath the mortar and the pan if I'm installing it on a concrete basement floor?

If so, would using the plywood in addition to the mortar make the finished tiled floor any more sturdy than just using the mortar under the pan?
Asked by: Ray
You should not install the mortar over the plywood. If you need to raise the height of the shower pan you should use durorock or backerboard. The plywood will rot because of the moisture in the mortar.

What is the set back of the drain from the side and end of the base?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product First, this shower base is actually 34 X 60 (the model number states this). I was a little reluctant at first, but this is a great product. It is easy to install, easy to tile and looks great. Yes it is a little pricey but it saves enough installation time that it is well worth it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good solution overall, needs epoxy for tiling, could be less expensive Worked fine for me. My contractor used epoxy-based mixture for tiling as one reviewer suggested and it went smooth. I got "flexible" mosaic style tiles, partially because the bottom of the base is not flat (and because these are not so slippery when wet, which is important for the shower floor) Overall, it is a good practical solution. Can not imagine still why it is $600. Massive plastic, not so complicated shape, nothing more. Oh, well ... I guess it is better than making the shape from scratch with concrete or something like this. Would it be $300-$400, I would give full five stars without hesitation. For its current price of $600 - just my vote for four stars and Average grade for Value

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good alternate if... you don't want to build your own pan or pour your floor. Yeah, it's $600, but you know its Tile Redi's fault if it leaks and it's not too bad to install. I would do it again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice product, used similar before, would use again, TIME SAVER! This product saves time and it great quality. I used it in a walk-in shower, with a glass block wall. You should know that the curb also slopes (I did not know this), so adding a glass block wall was a challenge. You cannot install a glass block wall directly on the floor (not recommended by the manufacturer), so I had to add some mortar to the curb to level it where I installed glass block on about half of the length. Otherwise, this product is great, easy to install and high quality. I was nervous that because it is so light, it might snap or crack after I installed all the weight on top (ceramic tiles, glass blocks, grout), but it held up! My shower drains perfectly and no leaks. I expect my shower to be maintenance free for years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Why epoxy instead of thinset? Surprise! when you open the box you realize that thinset won't stick to it and you must use epoxy. C'mon TileRedi, come up w/ a product that takes thinset. Actually needed more epoxy than was included to finish the curb- cost me $100 and a trip to get it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from tile ready shower pan So far so good ... comes with the drain attachment which is a bonus - all formed together. Easy to install and perfectly pitched to get the best drainage. Also, we did the ship to the local store for free option ... this also went off perfectly with no issues!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Tile Redi Shower Pan Review Overall, I was a bit disappointed with the quality of the Tile Redi shower pan. I expected it to be more durable, but the polyurethane is fairly flimsy. In short, it's light enough that if you were to drop a power tool on it, the tool could puncture it. The edges and corners can be easily damaged too if you're not careful with it. It was convenient the drain came installed in the pan, but it was not an easy task to connect it to the plumbing through our house foundation. The PVC drain coupling and foundation plumbing didn't quite line up (not Tile Redi's fault) but the PVC drain coupling didn't afford any flexibility. Tile Redi really needs a rubber gasket type connection to allow some flexibility during installation instead of a PVC glue fitting that only allows for about 30 seconds before the glue sets up. Overall, the pan is installed and looks fine but I haven't installed any of the tile yet. We have 2 more bathrooms in our house to renovate and I don't know if I'll order another one of these or not...
